Yuan-ti PCs, what ECL?

Soldarin assigns the Yuan-Ti Tainted One an ECL of +2 and the Broodguard an ECL of +1.

Unfortunately, WotC hasn't published ECLs for the creatures from Monsters of Faerun.

But keep in mind that these aren't true Yuan-Ti. They're quasi-yuan-ti templates that are added to a base human which has been given a drink made of yuan-ti venom mixed with herbs and roots. Then, based on a series of Fortitude saves, you become either a Tainted One or a Broodguard. The Tainted Ones (since they still look human) are used as spies, while the Broodguards are viewed as abominations, and are relegated to guarding brood chambers.

A Tainted One would, IMHO, be a much more practical choice for a PC. Their appearance isn't affected by the change, so they can pass as a normal human, and the lower ECL is much more manageable. Plus, you still get the human's racial bonus feat and extra skill points in addition to the bonuses from the Tainted One template.

Personally, I'd go with the DMG recommended +12 for a bit and see if that works, and only if the PC seems underpowered should you lower it. It's easier to drop the ECL than it is to raise it. And really, with all the abilities and bonuses Yuan-Ti have, I think +12 is about right.

DMG recommended? I don't think that yuan-ti are in the DMG... You mean Dragon #293, right? (*sigh* Damn the WotC US - WotC Europe disputes that prevented me from getting #293. :()
