You write "broom, 2 gr 1 gp" in your inventory.
"When ye next come to this broom closet," Trek says, "ye will know that the broom is taken, since it's in yer inventory. If ye later drop it somewhere, ye note the 'broom' and the room where it can be found. Like this:"
