Dandin grinned at Angus for a moment before having to focus on his driving again. "No worries, we'll sweet talk 'em so well they might even offer up some elven mead to soften the sting."

Legend
Though he grumbled about it, Angis led the group along a path toward the elf encampment. As the sun lowered in the sky to the west, the trees began to cast long shadows through the forest. A soft but not insignificant noise ahead caused Dandin to stop the cart, and an enormous elk came into view. Its unbelievable rack reached nearly to the height of the trees.

"Whoa!" Dandin exclaimed as he drew back on the reigns to bring Hanar to a stop. He wasn't quite sure what to make of this situation just yet, so waited to see what would come next.

Angis paused, eying the elk as it stepped out. That would make some fine steaks, but he knew that would be foolish. He rested his hands on his axes, but didn’t draw them.

“Hail an’ well met, friend,” Angis said. “We are nae danger t’ ye an’ yers, merely passin’ through lookin’ f’r a safe place t’ spend the night. Will we be welcome?”

Legend
The Elk lowered its head and munched a small bush, tearing the entire thing out of the ground and chewing surprisingly softly for such a large beast. It eyed Angis keenly and appeared to be considering his words. Suddenly there was a loud screeching noise from nearby in the forest. The Elk's head reared back and its eyes grew wide. It spun around as the screeching grew louder and nearer and the Daggerfordians could see the source of the noise - two owlbears had come out of the forest on either side. As the elk moved away from the first one it saw, the other lumbered toward the elk's rear on all fours, and then it leaped into air. Beating its feathered forarms to increase its lift, it jumped on the elk's back and ripped into its haunch with powerful claws.

At the sight of the owlbears, Tommi cups some stones in his hand, and blows into it, before loading one into his sling.

He's never seen an owlbear before -- though Lionel used always to describe one he once saw from his bedroom window. Tommi had never believed that, until now. The blending of feathers and fur was uncanny, and the fierceness of their beaks frightened him.

He steps forward and lets loose a stone.

OOC: Move (part 1) to M9 (20')
Bonus action -- cast Magic Stone.
Attack: vs. Owlbear at L3. [roll0]. If a hit, damage - [roll1]. I don't think he gets Sneak attack bonus, unless there's an ally adjacent to the creature; but if he does (because the elk is an ally?) please add [roll2].
Move (part 2): back to M11 (+10 = 30 ft.).

HP 15, AC 14, Move 30.

OOC: I would say that the Elk is allied with anyone who will save it from an owlbear, sure. Unfortunately...

Tommi's stone bounced off of the Owlbear's thick fur-and-feathery hide without seeming to bother the creature.

Round 1

“Son of an elf!” Angis muttered as two owlbears lumbered out of the woods to attack the giant elk. He quickly drew one of the hand axes at his belt as he rushed forward, throwing it at the owlbear that had leapt on the elk as he murmured a hunter’s prayer. But the axe thunked into a tree behind the beast.
