Jax deliberately waits before answering Sir Exsixten, hoping to give his uncle the scary idea that he's actually considering the offer.

"Don't act so innocent. You hired a ghost ship for us!"

Jax looks around for something to beat his uncle with. He settles on a sheaf of papers and rolls them up. He leaps at Jaz, still in the trunk, and bops him on the head a few times with the roll of paper.

"You dolt! This is what you get for being cheap!"
Wha,wha, wha, what? G-g-g-g-g-host ship? H-h-h-h-h-aunted? I did not know the ship was haunted! Ow! he yells after being bopped on the head. I swear! I would have never got on a haunted ship! It is worth paying real money to be on a ghost free ship!

Sir Exsixten steps into the room and, upon seeing Jax whacking Jaz, he steps up behind them, voice booming as he raises his axe.

RE-NON-UN-EX-GHOST LIZARD JAXIMUS, DO YOU REQUIRE ASSISTANCE? IF THERE IS SOME MACHIAVELLIAN FILIAL BETRAYAL IN ACTION, SIR EXSIXTEN COULD AXSIST YOU!
Nonononono! P-please don't hurt me! I did not mean to, I was not trying to I-I-I-I... with a yelp he sticks his head back inside the trunk, the whole container quivering.

Jax bats the chest Jaz is hiding in one last time. "Hmph." He seems satisfied with that punishment. "Maybe I can blame those mafia goons at home for you being so stingy."

The rogue looks around the berth, bored. "Well... what now? Shall we cut up some more potatoes? Or scrub the decks again? Arrgg... how long until we get to this haunted island, anyway?"

I know it is selfish of me to bring you into this without your permission.
I am not a wealthy man, nor a powerful one, so I can offer little in return, but will you help me? he says, looking at each of you in turn.

Quagmire's jaw hangs in disbelief throughout the Captain's sad tale. When it finishes, he slumps forward, then slams his forehead against a nearby bulkhead half a dozen times before turning to address the Captain.

"No. We won't help you. Oh, we'll deal with the ghosts of your family, but not for your sake. Not like we have much choice, it sounds like, but even if we could just walk away and not look back, we'd help for the sake of your crew, who are trapped in this mess of yours through no fault of their own. We'd help for the sakes of your poor wife and boy, trapped in this plane by your curse. We'd have helped you too, if you'd just asked us to like an honest man. But now you've trapped us into this, you've lost your right to be helped. In fact, I intend to suggest that the first thing we try is just tossing you overboard and seeing if the curse leaves with you."

With that Quagmire turns on his heel and slams the door behind him as he hurries after Jax.

Andras attempts to follow Quagmire out of the room, only to have the door slammed in his face. As he opens it again, he softly tells the captain, "I've said it before and I'll say it again: curses are good for nothing but spreading hurt to people who don't deserve it. A pity you haven't figured that out yet." With that he slips through the doorway towards the rest of his companions.

Yeah, blame them! Uncle Jaz says. Now if you will excuse me... he says leaping out of the trunk and running past the party before they could change their mind about hitting him again.

GM: I know the adventure has been a bit slow so far, but soon you will get into the more exciting combaty parts. Not that being trapped on a cursed ghost ship is not exciting enough ;)

You have one more task to do before you go into the tomb, that is to figure out how to lay the souls of the dead son and wife to rest and break the curse.

"You must bring my child to where I am laid to rest....only then will I be free from this world. She starts to fade. Find my husband, he knows his sins and what must be done to set me free. Make him remember what he has done... she says, fading out of sight as fast as she appeared."

Sir Exsixten paces, muttering something about CURSE... FLAMMABLE CURSE? STUPID MALFUNCTIONING ANCHOR... LAMP OIL? MAYBE THAT'S THE KEY TO THIS CURSE!

He stops for a moment as gears grind in his head. With a renewed sense of purpose he sets out to "solve" the curse once again.

OOC: Obviously we need to talk to the captain and ask what it is we need to do to purge his sins - including bringing his child to where his wife is buried/lost or whatever apparently. Sir Exsixten isn't the most likely person to make that happen...

Resignedly, Andras returns to the cabin. "How, exactly, are we supposed to lift your curse? It occurs to me that it would be very in character for you to not tell us that one of us is supposed to take your place in damnation."
