D&D 5E Attack of the Clones: Simulacrum

They only need a level 7 slot for simulacrum.

Day 1 you create a simulacrum via wish or simulacrum. You rest and get your spells back. You call your clone disposable 1.
Day 2 Disposable 1 clones you with all your spells back creating alpha 1,
Day 3 Alpha 1 clones you twice creating Alpha 3 and 4,
Day 4 alpha 3 and 4 clone you twice creating alpha 5-8,
Day 5 Alpha 5 to 8 clone you twice creating Alpha 9-16
Day 6 Alpha 9-16 clone you twice creating Alpha 17-32.
Day 7 64
Day 8 128
Day 9 256
Day 10 512
Day 11 1024
Day 12 2048
Day 13 4096

By day 6 you can have 32 wish spells available for the cost of 48 000 gp. By day 13 you can have 4096 although realistically you might run low on money after day 10.

What they should have done was have a line saying each being can only have 1 simulacrum at a time or you can only clone yourself and the clone has 50% of your levels (rounded down).

Can Wish create money? In previous editions IIRC you could create 25k or so with it.

Each clone even after they reproduce still has a level 8 spell slot, all of their level 1-6 spells and can spam 4d10 firebolts or whatever cantrip.

At level 20 the pattern is.

If you cast simulacrum in the level 8 slot as well the level 20 pattern is now level 17 and the level 20 pattern is now.

How much cash do you have and how many wish spells do you want? Send your clones out to raid low level dungeons, the caves of Chaos has around 40kgp in it.

If your Alpha 1 copies you again, he destroys himself.
The way it reads is, there can only be ONE simulacrum of you at a time.
So, if every clone attempts to make a copy of YOU, then the previous one is destroyed.
That means, they can only copy themselves, thereby getting weaker as they go.

Would that copy a spell, or would it fall under the issue of being a greater wish, and you have a 1 in 3 chance of not being able to cast wish again?

You are not the one casting the wish so you can use the clones for the greater wishes.

It says if you cast it again. You are not casting the spell the clones are. If they cast it again sure but the clone chain gets around that.

I think I was wrong about the 1,2,4,8 part of the chain I think its more 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, etc.

THis is an old thread, rereading the spell I think its create a clone which creates a clone which creates a clone etc. They all clone you though.

By day 3 when alphas are recreating more of you, you've taken 3 days and spent material on disposable 1, then Disposable 1 spent material components to create at least one of the Alphas. In later days, they are spending more gold and as PHB states, when a spell has costly material components, you must have that component. Wish trumps that, but if the sims start using their 1 and only wish, then they lose it forever. Yes, you could still attempt this, but when was the last time you had a DM that gave your character 3 days to work undisturbed? If you did it between adventures, the DM only need an enemy that can use anti-magic, or Dispel Magic to start messing you up.

You can do it while in down time it would be a silly game where the world is in peril everyday.

Personally I think the infinite clones thing is a red herring. No DM will let it work anyway.

What I think is an unconscionable abuse is simply that you can use simulacrum to trade one 7th level spell for a whole day's worth of other spells, including an 8th and 9th level spell. Even if you burn your wish to recover the component costs, you're still getting a whole lot of free spells (plus a man servant to make your dinner for as long as it survives).

I would probably just house rule that the sim can't cast spell of level 7 or higher.

Each sim could only have one sim of its own at a time. No matter who it's sim of. They could still make a bunch and yes having all the extra spell casting power is broken, but the sims are easily destroyed too.

they don't become more powerful as in leveling up not in the dm's interpretation of "gain power" otherwise tons of spells would be useless like any buff spells at all and so would getting magic items cuz all buffs are to gain power even the described use case just specifying what is to be done with said power.................
