Unless they play the exact same race, class, feats, skills, spells, etc., they are never going to be on even footing.

Same exact build and race, average of 25% difference between survival rate of the average high and low ability scores in the game is significant. I don't think a system that effectively guarantees that one character is significantly more effective at their role is a good thing. You do.

You like rolling, I don't. What else is there to say?

So...when point-buy advocates advocate point-buy they are just honestly giving their opinion, but when I advocate rolling it is just 'spouting propaganda'?

What more, simply arguing your side of things and why you like rolling is apparently "complaining" about point buy.

My statement had nothing to do with rolling. You claimed an equal footing is good. I'm saying that an equal footing is a pipe dream that doesn't exist with arrays or point buys.

Nope. Saying "I hate this thing about point buy" is complaining about point buy (which Arial did, and I called them on). Continually extolling the supposed virtues of one over the other propaganda.

There is a guarantee that everyone playing professional football is in the top 1% of all football players for their particular role.
The evidence presented by the current state of the Seahawks' offensive line may beg to differ...

On a more serious note: yes we can all more or less agree that adventurers are a cut above. But even within that "cut above" where adventurers reside there's still realistically going to be some variance. Same as with the top 1% of football players - sure Blake Bortles and Tom Brady are within that top 1% range of quarterbacks but nobody is ever going to say they are equals.

It's not a complaint unless he's complaining. Stating a reason why you prefer one over the other is an explanation, not a complaint. If I say, I prefer rolling because it's more realistic and that point buy/arrays are very unrealistic, which I hate, there's no complaint there. There's nothing about the situation which is unsatisfactory or unacceptable, as I can use rolling which IS satisfactory and acceptable. Now, if rolling wasn't an option and he came here saying that he hates point buy, THEN it would be a complaint.

Been GM'ing since 1978 - the relevance of which is that I have NEVER seen a poor stat array on a 'I rolled these stats while you weren't watching' character sheet.

I have seen a fair share of them while I HAVE been watching.

Apparently I have a local luck-dampening field that follows me around that brings all the fun of credible mathematical probability with it wherever I go...

I've seen lots of them. You should choose better people to game with.
