Anyone know of a rules light modern RPG? I KS'd the Everyday Heroes but since then our group is looking to get away from a d20/5E system. Any suggestions?

Savage Worlds is my answer to most things.

But Everyday Heroes seems very playable and fun as d20/5e systems go, with nifty ideas around INT based chars etc. If and when the Urban Arcana is released I will probably run a campaign.

The Tiny D6 line has some modern products: Tiny Wastelands (post-appoc), Tiny Zombies, Tiny Mecha, Tiny Kaijus...you can mash those that interest you and have a nice modern game.

There's also Modern AGE from Green Ronin, which is simpler than 5e but still has some crunch.

Then there's the like of City of Mist, Kids on Bikes, Blades in the Dark, various PbtA games etc which are more on the story-telling side of things.

Hey, congrats!

(Why am I thinking that cong rats would be a cool monster now...)

Does "modern" mean "has cool '80s art," "contains specific rules for car chases," "no magic," "involving recent techniques, methods, or ideas," or perhaps "contains equipment lists for firearms and/or computer equipment?"

I don't know if it is fully rules light, but it is on the lighter side: Savage Worlds. That is a pretty good go to for modern stuff among a lot of the people I game with. Esoterrorists is also extremely light but highly specific in the type of setting it is. At the moment I am blanking on modern rules light, but if you go onto a few forums and search I am sure you will find a ton of hidden gems too

Savage Worlds or Gumshoe/Nights Black Agents would be my choice. Cypher might work. I’m sure you could find a Fate as well. I’d go with Savage Worlds personally but NBA would probably be my second choice. I’ve never really looked at Modern Age but it might be an option as well.

To clarify. when I said Modern I was referring to anything set in the 20th and 21st century. When we've played Alternity/D20 Modern we've generally played games set in our city and neighborhood. Savage Worlds seems to be the forerunner of suggestions at this point but I'm going to look into everything people have mentioned. Thanks for the responses, keep them coming.

I Kickstarted Everyday Heroes, the book is very nice and I'm sure that its a great game. Seeing the KS was probably over a year ago, since then we've decided to get away from the 5E/d20 system. Its just more complex than our group is after nowadays. I'm of the mind now, let the players roleplay their characters, use their brains and come up with clever ways to overcome obstacles and not automatically look to there character sheets for every answer. Give me just enough rules I need and I can interpret the rest as I see fit and keep the game moving.
