Yes, a Warlock can carry as many curses during an encounter as they're able to place. The only limitations on this is that once cursed by one warlock, the monster cannot be cursed by another warlock and you can only curse the closest enemy.

I think this is exactly his point about the dagger, though - it has two different modes of function.

I think this last point is the best one, too. DM's need to be on top of the rules because a lot of times what's broken is merely misunderstood or misused. I ran a Psion once and missed the bit about not being able to use more total power points on augmentation than your manifester level...

My characters have a history of conflict with the party cleric (seriously, the last 4 parties... different characters, different clerics, different players), so my fighters would never say that. Mostly they say, "You stupid cleric, why can't you heal anymore? What good are you!"
