Kingdoms of Kalamar - fill me in please

The "player's primer" was written to address the 'book is too dry to read' syndrome. I really like the Kalamar setting because the five chapters of the book are like mini settings in themselves as each area is quite different.

does anyone out there use the kingdoms of Kalamar setting?

It does not have a map of the entire globe. But it does include two maps (one of the Eastern half and one of the Western half) on the "known world". Known world being the areas described in the setting guide. Then, there is the atlas with all of your detail. 25 miles to the inch detail. The...

does anyone out there use the kingdoms of Kalamar setting?

Well, I was going to make a large post about the Kalamar setting since my group and I have played in the world since it came out for 3e, but Buttercup brought up everything I was going to say myself. So, I will just say: "Ditto". You can also find some story hours on the KenzerCo message...

    Does anyone still play 3.0e?

My group is still playing 3.0. I bought the 3.5 books and as a group we looked over the changes and decided 3.0 was better. We thought the "power up" spells were OK. Don't like S,M, L weapon changes. Really don't like the fact that 3.5 came out at all just to make additional sales. The...

The State of ENWorld (too important to go to Meta)

I used to post a lot on these boards and on the boards that proceeded this one, but now that I have found I can not buy every d20 book that is published I concentrate on D&D and Kalamar, so I spend most of my time at Kenzerco.com instead of here. I still read the front page daily and glance at...

Official DnD, D20, and OGL - who are you?

Hmmmm, not really sure where I would fit into this question. I suppose I would have to say Official only, but most of the books I have bought lately have been by KenzerCo for Kalamar. So, while official D&D they are not WOTC books.

    Kalamar losing popularity?

The Atlas is beautiful, isn't it. I would like to say that KenzerCo took a financial hit because of that book. They knew they would not make any money on it and most likly not even break even, but it was something they wanted to make for their world. I would love to see Atlas for other...

Intergrating "play by e-mail" into a regular campaign

I did that with a campaign set in Kalamar. I would try to time things so the game was in a role-playing stage between gaming sessions so we could do the role-playing between sit down games. It was great because the players would usually take over and do a lot of discussion between themselves...

Which "phase" of D&D do you prefer?

I find that I prefer the lower to mid levels simply because the skill system kinda breaks down after that. Player, "I want to scry on this person whom they described" DM: "Ok, ummm, DC 30" Player:"Well, I have 18 ranks and an INT of 20 so my base is 23." It just seems to easy to do mundain...

    [KOK} Products Useful?

It just so happens that I have an extra copy of this book. Kenzer sent me a couple of copies of the book because I helped playtest it. But since I DM I will not be needing it. If you write a review of it and post it in the reviews section I will send you my copy. e-mail me your address -...

Spending gift money: What are some good D&D buys? (Publishers, pimp here!)

Re: Incentive to buy Kalamar stuff Holy crap! What a deal. Anyway, Kenzer has a very well written sourcebook out now called "Fury in the Wastelands — The Orcs of Tellene". It talks about orcish society and gives four variations. One of which is magically created. The setting guide is...

Castle Greyhawk - Hackmaster or d20

Yes, I suppose you are correct, a sale is a sale, but a product that supports and expands a product line would be more interesting for a company than just a module that sells well, and would allow more money to be in the coffers for the authors when they start writing parts 4-10... Hackmaster...

Castle Greyhawk - Hackmaster or d20

I am starting to think that is how most people feel. I guess many people feel Hackmaster is too much of a 'spoof' to be a real game, but the mechanics are sound. I guess I just thought there would be more old gamers like me excited about the release of this fabled classic that started it all...

Castle Greyhawk - Hackmaster or d20

Yes, HM is a retooled AD&D, but AD&D is no longer supported and HM is. But you are correct in that you should be able to easily convert any HM module to AD&D simply by taking 20 hps away from every creature. As far as the Jokeing nature of HM, we will have to wait and see how Gary and Rob...

Castle Greyhawk - Hackmaster or d20

I have to agree with this... Marketing screwed up with that one. It would have been better to go with Hackfactor books (Hackfactor is the same as CR in 3e) doing some for HF 1-4 then working up to the big baddies so you could buy them as your game grew.... But, anyway... The old monster books...
