When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

Magic of Incarnum. Followed by Tome of Battle, and the second round of "Complete" books. Although the Race books were pretty "meh".

    Kobold Quarterly

Originally it was a mix of 4E and 3.5, but now I believe its 4E and Pathfinder. I play Pathfinder and there's plenty there for that ruleset, and even the 4E articles are good...they provide plenty of inspiration so its all good! *also: there are plenty of system neutral articles too.

Ampersand to reveal mystery of the disappearing books (apparently)

I've been wondering for a while now if Bill isn't the root of the problem with the D&D brand. Hope they're not having problems paying the printers.

    Thoughts on the edition treadmill

I wish the RPG business was about designing a good, solid set of rules, with only occasional minor revisions, and a continuous development of new campaign settings every few years. Not the slew of them we got slammed with during the 2E era, but a single new world/setting every few years, with...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

I don't really want to add fuel to the fire here, but I can see the next phase of all of this being slight increases in price, and like has been suggested, additional costs for more space/functionality/features/etc.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Here they built up all the anticipation, and held off on updates, and told everyone to be patient, and gave the impression that something was coming that was going to knock everyone's socks off.... and the usual PR fail occurs. I wonder if this would have gone over better if they'd just...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

You know, I can honestly understand why they would want to move to this kind of model, I mean, the CB as it is/was is very easy to pirate, and like has been mentioned, a person can sub for one month and get everything. Which honestly is a bum deal for WotC. The only real downside to the...

D&D is now in (exceedingly awesome) commercial form

But WoTC says its a beginner set for new players. I think its absolutely aimed at lapsed players, and for some reason, folks that already play seem to be buying it, even though they already know how to play. Just seems like if they really want to grow the game they need to stop "preaching...

    Where's my D&D Essentials?

1000 times this. Amazon is great if you want the discount, or if its something that's already in stock. If you want it right away though, its better to seek it out through normal retail channels. I've come to realize that if I want the discount through Amazon, I have to be prepared to wait...

    Magus: "Staying the Course"

No offense intended, but if the Magus as a med. BAB class really peeves you off so bad, just stick with the Archon or the Duskblade. I see alot of folks over on the Paizo boards getting awfully worked up over something that should be pretty trivial.

    Killing the sense of wonder

Lame PC names. Players buying and selling magic items like they're at the Flea Market.

    A Druid Vampire

But night-time and the moon are a big part of nature too. Likewise the darker side of nature. Predator-prey, life-death. That sort of thing.

Re-booting D&D with a new edition - how necessary is it?

But we're talking about a niche market. Not Shakesspeare or Madonna. However, if the re-invention occurs faster than those gamers are aging, and having kids....
