Welp, even though I'm getting the Starter Set locally for $25, this price clearly means I will pre-order and wait a couple of weeks to save $20.

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else in this week's threadsplosion, but the MM and SMG are sitting right around $40. $110 for the trinity (of 320-page books) isn't too bad at all.

It's how Amazon's system works. The more sales or preorders a product has, the higher the percentage off.

That's also part of their system. Presumably, by having the price fluctuate, that encourages people to "jump in" next time they see a low low price - if they want the best deal then they should pre-order early, rather than just wait for the last minute and get the best deal (which would inevitably be the case if the discount always went up with the number of pre-orders).
