Please continue to check the originating post (OP) of this thread for updates. If we encounter rules changes that the group or I prefer, I will make note of them in this post.
IC Posting Standards:
All players must post once daily for their characters, Monday through Friday. I have a family and church to attend to and require the weekends off. On rare occasions, if everyone is willing, we may push through combat over the course of a weekend. If a player is not able to post daily for a short period of time (we all have real life issues from time to time), it is acceptable to post a brief note in the OOC thread saying that a short leave of absence is necessary. If you do not wish to publicly post your absence in the OOC thread, please consider either a PM or e-mail to me viable communication methods. If players go without regularly posting for a week without letting us know that they'll be absent, their PC will become an NPC. While I am very understanding of real life issues, I like the pace of the game to go as smoothly as possible. Players may expect one DM post per day but will oftentimes receive more than one. I'm a stay-at-home mom so daily computer access is normally not an issue.
A Note On This Game:
This is your chance, for those of you who may have been wanting to do so, to play a non-core race and/or to play in an Underdark campaign. The campaign module is designed to last from 10th through to 18th character level. For those who elect to participate, you will find that I am the sort of DM who is open to gracious, diplomatic, and kind-spirited correction. I fully expect that at least one or two of you will know the Underdark like the back of your hand; if you’re that person, then we can all benefit from your expertise, so please speak up.
Szith Morcane:
The basic gist of this game is that an abandoned drow settlement by the name of Szith Morcane has been fairly recently discovered by disparate individuals of various FR Underdark clans and races. Szith Morcane has, over the last year, become an enclave, a haven for misfits from both the Underdark and the surface. Szith Morcane’s existance, and particularly its recent revivial, is a closely guarded secret by those who reside there; entry is gained by trial of will and arms. To divulge Szith Morcane’s secret is to wish death upon oneself. Residents of Szith Morcane have formed a clandestine organization called Tsurlanej's Forgotten, more commonly referred to by residents as simply The Forgotten. In homage to Llolth, the patron diety of the drow city of Maerimydra, The Forgotten are governed by a Council of Eight. The Council claims allegiance to a ruler by the name of Tsurlanej, though just who Tsurlanej is is a mystery.
The drow settlement of Szith Morcane has lain beneath the Dordrien Crypts of the Daggerdale for centuries. Founded in 804 DR as an outpost of the drow Underdark city of Maerimydra when that city also ruled Shadowdale, Szith Morcane served as a supply station for drow operating on the surface and a staging point for occasional raids into the Daggerdale. With the flight of the drow from Shadowdale, the inhabitants of Szith Morcane and Maerimydra lost interest in the surface world.
Characters of races native to the Underdark should include in their character background that they either are native to the drow city of Maerimydra (and are outcasts) or at a minimum worked for hire in some capacity or another for a number of years. My reason for this is that I need for each PC to have a strong draw toward the city of Maerimydra. None of the PCs will have been in Szith Morcane for longer than three months. Likewise, none of the PCs will have a tie to either Tsurlanej or the Council of Eight.
Poison Identification:
By 5/8 majority, the following house rule is implemented. A detect poison spell in conjunction with a successful wisdom DC 20 or Craft (poisonmaking) check will identify a poison based on the following difficulty class (DC).
