Yes it can.

It removes the need for V components. It doesnt make it immune to counterspell.

It removes also somatic components and you can't perceive it being cast.

By my count you used your 3 readying fireball, and then used a bonus action to turn 5 SP and make yourself another one for the 4th fireball.

Ready an spell was a mistake (I forgot it's only one round), I lost a spell slot.

I was 380 feet away. I became invisible and took the Hide action. It took me at least 4 turns to close to 120' (moving 60' per round).

You spent that entire time readying Fireball (trigger when I become visible).

According to the rules for readying a spell, if you dont cast that spell by the start of your next turn, the slot is lost.

By my count, that's 4 x 3rd level slots.
