DnD 3.5 - Valley of the Dead

I found the perfect solution - in the DMG (page 175-176). About the Undead Hunter (a variant of the ranger) - Direct quote from the DMG:

"It's possible to create entirely new classes, or rather, to alter existing classes so drastically that they're no longer recognizable. For example, you could make the following adjustments to the ranger.
  • Limit his weapon selection to resemble the rogue's list of weapon proficiencies.
  • Change his favored enemy ability so that it applies only to undead, and his bonus improves by 2 every five levels.
  • Give him the rogue's sneak attack ability, but change it so that it's only usable against undead.
  • Change his spell list so that it consists of spells that deal strictly with undead or that are used for subterfuge and sneaking.
At 3rd level, give him the paladin's smite evil ability, usable only against undead.
Now the class is the undead stalker, a stealthy character skilled in tracking and slaying undead."

So I can take 1 level as an Undead Hunter and use my sneak attacks vs undead.

Something that the DMG did not do that I would of is remove Wild Empathy from the ranger list of class skills as well.

What say you Myth: yay or nay?

I was writing my post while you were doing yours. Can I rather go with my basic non-committed/non-affiliated/non-religion rogue instead?

I think I will go with an Enchanter. Most likely Enchanter 3 | Master Specialist 5. I'm not sure about the Race but it's likely I'll go Human, just because it's how I roll.

What's the stance on the Leadership Feat?

hellrazor111: Checked it, and you're good to go! Your character should get along fine with wysiwyg's character.

wysiwyg: Sure i tried giving the class a bit of flavor and a stronger Sneak Attack vs Undead at level 15. Take the Ranger variant or Rogue without Trapfinding/Trapsense if you like. However Sneak Attack/Crits will work only vs Undead, not other things (like constructs).

Shayuri: Ok i get what you're saying. Which aspects of Warshaper do you think are too powerful? Still Warforged are immune to a ton of things, if i allow them i see no reason to weaken warshapers. I'd say let's see what Theroc has come up with and just tweak things after if at all necessary.

If modifications are allowed you could just alter the Swift Hunter feat from Complete Scoundrel. It lets levels in Scout and Ranger stack for some things and lets skirmish damage your favored enemies even if they are immune to crits and such. Just change it to Rogue and require +2d6 Sneak attack. That will pretty much do it. What do you think?

Also, this a first come first serve recruitment? Seems like it would be better to pick the best characters to make a more balanced party. I'm sure there are more people who would love to put their name in. Like me.

ethandrew: Master Specialist, which book is that PrC in? You can use Leadership if you like, as it's been written. You play your cohort as an extra character. It's unlikely that followers will be useful in the valley though.

KerlanRayne: Thank you for the idea, we could do it like that if wysiwyg wants to go the Scout route. The game is on a first come - first served basis as i can't discriminate. One really doesn't know what to expect - people with 5 posts have been very good players, people with 2000 posts have gone missing for months... Party roles are pretty evenly distributed now that two of our three undefined PCs will be Arcane casters. If someone drops out i will re-open recruitment and reserve your spot!

Great. I'll work on something and post it tomorrow. Good night all.

Hm. Well, the immunity to crits and fast healing are powerful...but other races (warforged and shifters respectively) can get those abilities with racial feats, so it doesn't seem out of line...

I'd say the stat bonuses. +4 to two important stats is pretty huge.

I don't recall offhand if those bonuses are typed. Calling them enhancement bonuses would probably solve the problem right there. Otherwise you might want to tone them down. Maybe to +2/+2...or +4 to either Str OR Con...but not both at once...

ethandrew: Go ahead with Master Specialist - this PrC is awesome and helps a lot with Archmage requirements. I wish i knew about it before rolling Silivrenniel for Jemal's game.

Shayuri: Good point about the bonuses.

Theroc, do you prefer +4 STR/CON as enhancement bonuses (does not stack with Wondrous Items), or +2 STR/CON as "undefined" bonuses. The formed will give you more power at the start, the latter is more late-game oriented. I intend to take you guys to lvl 20 and possibly beyond, so choose wisely. I'll make you a deal - if we get to epic, i'll let you get the other +2 STR/CON from the Morphic Body SU ability.
