(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

Legend
In the stress of the fight, the Colonel had momentarily forgotten that he had left Donnell with the scouts Cromby and Siersha, who were keeping an eye on the Steading. He had a momentary panic that Donnell was crushed under a rock somewhere, before he relaxed and gathered his cloud to send lightning down on the giantess. She was far too slow to dodge, but she raised her hand and a large stone lifted off the ground and flew over her head. As the Colonel sent the lighting down, it struck the rock, splitting it in two and sending a shower of sparks down on her.

Waythe sang out as Kahru slashed her across the giantess' belly. The gaintess screamed and stumbled, but through sheer determination, size, and fury kept her feet. She raised her club, and Kahru's wolf dove in, latching its jaws on her leg. She dragged the wolf around, stumbling about as she tried in vain to get a chance to beat Kahru with her club without falling down the hillside. That was when Gimlak attacked her mind and she lost focus. The wolf pulled her leg out from under her and she fell backward, down the hill and came crashing to the bottom, where she lay still, staring up at the sky.

OOC: Solka took 6 from Colonel's lightning, 18 from Waythe (but didn't fall) and 2 psychic from Gimlak. Oh, and Kahru's wolf did 12. She'd have made the wolf's knocking-prone save, but for the -2 from Gimlak's Sliver, so down she goes. She falls, taking 7 more damage and is Prone at the bottom. Uh... that's a total of 45 damage and she had 44 HP. She's dead! I'll do the Houndsman after @Snarf Zagyg posts for Doc. You around, Snarf?

Notorious Liquefactionist
Doc looks at the large, hurt wolf in front of him, firing a single shot to put it out of its misery, before returning, with icy resolve, to fire another shot at his intended victim; the large blackhat that he he fixed his vengeance upon.

OOC:
First shot: 1D20+9 = [13]+9 = 22
Damage to DW4: 1D10+5 = [9]+5 = 14
14 damage to DW4, putting it down.

Second Shot: 1D20+9 = [7]+9 = 16

Houndsman, Sneak, Kaligan 10 feet, and Hex: 1D10+5 = [10]+5 = 15
2D6 = [4, 5] = 9
1D6 = [2] = 2

Legend
Doc shot the last of the Houndsman's dire wolves dead and then turned his pistol on their master. A screaming bullet found its place in the giant's shoulder. The houndsman looked around, just coming out of the confusion that Gimlak had psychically forced on him.

::You kilt me dogs. You kilt da Chief. Kilt two o'his wives.:: The giant said slowly and deeply while holding his shoulder. He turned as the other remaining giant let out a round of manic guffaws, ::Made me all confusted. And you made dis idiot laugh so hard he's gonna shid hisself.::

He switched from Giant to the common tongue and said, "Wad'll it take t'gedya t'let me ta go?"

OOC: Doc killed DW4 & did 26 to Houndsman. The houndsman will try to parlay. You can keep fighting (in which case the Houndsman will be Dodging), or we can break out of combat here.

The barbarian glared as the giantess stumbled, driven back by the onslaught of his wolf. Her face distorting in shock as she toppled backward, her club still flailing uselessly before she hit the ground, stone dead.
She had a nice trip” the barbarian quipped as he turned away compelling both the sword Waythe and the remaining wolf to remain vigilant and engaged “but we’re not finished yet!”.

His eyes focussed then on the Houndmaster, a hated foe whose careless tyranny had meant the unnecessary death of the dire wolves - that giant would pay for their deaths!

OOC: While I sympathise with the desirability of negotiating, Kahru is raging, already hates ogres/hill giants, has Waythe urging him on, and has a grudge against the Houndmaster for recapturing the Dire Wolves he released! So RP demands he charge in to attack the last giant standing! So unless someone stops him, Kahru is going hulk smash on the Houndmaster

The Colonel is focused on the storm above, and directs his focus on maintaining its fury. He sees the Giantess fall, and the Houndmaster yelling, but still up and apparently threatening.

He thinks of Donnell, and for a moment considers relenting, b ut another lightning bolt falls, now directed at the Houndmaster.

OOC: Action: call lightning on wherever the Houndsman is. DC 18 dex check or 4d10=17 lightning damage, half on save.

I have no problems stopping the fight if only to move the game along, but it is not clear to me the Houndsman can give us anything we need, unless we want to be escorted into the fort again. In any case, he can do that next turn, if that's what we choose.

OOC: Let's just move on. We've probably been here too long.

Doc hesitated for only a moment to see what the others would do. Though he knew the Black Hat needed killin', he was still getting used to his new surroundings and the companions he found himself with. Perhaps it was little surprise that Kahru turned, leaped off the higher cliff, and brought Waythe screaming over his head.

As he flew through the air, the Colonel directed his lightning down on the Houndsman. "Friendly fire" was only narrowly avoided as the giant took the main line of the bolt. Kahru had his hair standing firmly on-end as he landed on the giant's shoulders and stabbed his blade downward behind the giant's clavicle.

Still, the giant didn't yet fall. He reached up clumsily, trying to grab and throw off the northman who was hanging by the blade. The giant circled around, while being sliced in the legs by Kaligan's own sword. Finally, Doc tipped his hat to the others and he fired. Wailing spirits followed the bullets home, and the giant fell to the ground as Kahru rolled free.

OOC: hell yeah!

Lightning, blood and steel! Kahru the Storm Bear roared as he rolled away from the fallen hound master, the sound turning to rapturous laughter as he recovered his feet and lofting the triumphant great sword Waythe towards the sky, allowed his rage to dissapate.

The giantess witch was dead, as was accursed hound master, enslaver of the wolves. The enslaved wolves had also been killed and as the weight of it dawned upon him, he looked around at his companions each as weary as he was - they were not to blame, the battle had been hard and fair won.

Whats our next step then?” Kahru asked as they company gathered. His own wolf companion had already faded away as he stood up again and looked down at the houndmasters corpse, searching over the bulk for any useful items and considering if he should take its head as a trophy…

OOC: should we take the laughing giant in for interrogation or just slay it?
