Thank you so much for choosing Jaden. I've been dieing to get into a 4th edition game but my schedule prevents me from joining any in person. I am really looking forward to getting to develop this character.

The two sets of individuals probably know each other. In a town of 800 or so, I would expect most people know each other. I would ask, however, that you not develop strong ties to the other group in the backstory section.

There are a number of tieflings in town, although the biggest group is human, all races are represented with at least 20 individuals.

cool. was actually hoping for something like this.
I'm assuming that we can and will know each other. I think it would be tricky not to have heard of Phillian's "daughter", the person whose entire family drowned mysteriously on dry land, etc.
Plus we'll have "npcs in common" though we may see them very differently. I totally think we should have backgrounds in common similar interests and so on.

Gladir and Mirna could totally have pulled pranks together and hang out talking about rituals when we're in town (just to riff on something that Warlock lord originally sugested). We just need to rp with the understanding that we don't adventure together.
In Mirna's case I think that how ever she might feel about the town or the townsfolk her relationship with Phillian trumps it.

She'd almost certainly want to help the young rebels (if, for no other reason than she's not supposed to) so she might "borrow" books from Phillian's library to help them research, tip them off about official interest in their activities, arrange a distraction if they needed to pull something or perform rituals they'd need.
But she wouldn't cross over the "invisible line" where she could permanently damage her relationship with Phillian (which we'll draw at adventuring without his express permission").
Basically she'd be like an NPC for the other group (actions subject to redclaw's approval of course).

In fact maybe Gladir taught her or hooked her up with some of her rituals and/or her orb? (it strains credulity that she found those lying around)

One concern I have about any significant interaction between Mirna and Gladir is that the tiefling's grandfather was banished, in part by Mirna's guardian. You'd have to do some real story-building to convince me that Gladir is going to trust Mirna.

On the whole, my thought is that the two parties will definitely know each other, at least in passing. As I said a few posts above, however, I would prefer that the two groups stay somewhat distinct, and that there aren't any strong ties between individuals in the two groups. I'm not planning to set you seriously at odds with each other, but I'm not looking for one adventuring group with two branches, either.

Message received. Sorry if I jumped the gun.

I think I was feeling a bit guilty about not responding to WL's earlier post (I had hopes that you'd figure out a way to include more people but if not... two wizards would have been an unlikely inclusion in a 5 person party).

I'm also not sure that I realized how banished he was... is he like, impossible to find?
Honestly a "mean old wizard living on the outskirts of town" would be like a weekly, if not daily, +5 attack on Mirna's Will defense. (Hit: She goes and "checks it out"). especially when she was at her oh-I-can't-master-magic-by-myself phase.

If it's possible to find him maybe she did go, but he noticed her spying on him, decided she was "spying on him for Phillian" and hit her with a cause fear or something and sent her scampering back to town.
Checking with Phillian (in an oh so casual way) probably confirmed that the teifling wizard was a "no-go" and she avoided them ever since?

He hasn't been seen since he was "escorted" out of town. Mirna was likely very interested in him when the news broke, but I'm going to guess that she's lost interest in the intervening two years that have been entirely devoid of encouraging rumors or incidents.

Two years ago would be right about when she'd found "the diary of l'Ranara" -> high interest level. (His being escorted out would increase her desire to keep the diary a secret too.)

Shall we just say she couldn't find him and move on then?
