3.5. And darn, Corsair is faster than me!

I don't know that it's of limited use in "most" campaigns - it depends heavily on the DM. It seems the more splatbooks involved, the more likely these limited scope abilities are to be used.

FWIW, ki strike (magic) is almost always redundant, since as soon as they can the player of a monk tends to get GMW, kensai levels, or an amulet of mighty fists.
