Maybe instead of 4e, there will be infinite releases asymptotic to 4e. Of course, as the number of revisions gets smaller and smaller, so does the time in between releases:

3e - 2000
3.5e - 2004
3.75e - 2007
3.875e - 2009
3.9375e - 2010
3.96875e - ?
3.984375e - ??
etc.
