D&D 5E Multiclass Spellcaster question

So as far as I'm aware, a sorcerer/paladin multiclass combo has the issue of having spell slots of a level higher than any spell they know (they can of course up cast a lower level spell though.) Yet, from the wording of the wizards preparation rules, as well as their spellbook rules, they can copy a spell into their spell book of any level that they have slots for. Does this mean that a Wizard/Eldritch Knight, while not having as high of a spell level as a straight wizard, doesn't suffer from the same drawback as a sorcerer/paladin provided they can find and copy the spells they want of the higher level?

Nope, wizard multiclass doesn't get to use their book to bypass that rule. The phb errata to that section makes it more obvious.

"Your Spellbook (p. 114). The spells cop-
ied into a spellbook must be of a spell level
the wizard can prepare."
