My Attempt at Coloring

ThorneMD

First Post
So I got inspired by some art and decided to get back into photoshop coloring.

I took an old pic (by KiptheBold) and colored for myself. What does everyone think?

Even if your only trying to make a simple image, you need some shading for it to be effective. At a minimum, have each surface have at least two tones based on how the light falls on it. More would be ideal.

The drop shadow under him looks good, but the colors on him are still too flat. For the clouds, there's a method of doing them that generally works better than airbrushing them in:

Add a layer of solid blue-white
Go filter> clouds
Drop the opacity
Go in with a soft eraser and clear out any areas where you don't want clouds.

Or something close to that. I haven't colored in Photoshop for a while.

Any suggestions on how to make the colors pop out more. I try to do shadows, but usually make the whole pic look bad. So I'm open to suggestions.

As for the clouds, I kindof followed that.
What I did:
Add layer of grey
Go filter>clouds
Burn tool to make them seem more like clouds.

And thanks for the criticism. I need it to make sure I get good at this.

Added more shadows. I think I'm happy with it right now, but we'll see.

What does everyone else think? I know I'm getting annoying now. :heh: Sorry.

I'll probably start working on another pic in a few days or so.

Definitely better, but you still need to add a lot more variation in color. It might help if you think of filling areas with gradients, rather than flat colors.

Just a quick coloring job that I did before bed. I'm going to fix it up some more, but wanted to get it up here.

I tried out the gradients on this one and I do like it a little better.
