There can be no complaints about the term 'Discipline Points' being bland and generic so long as the alternatives being offered up are 'Life Points', 'Soul Points' or 'Focus Points'. :D

The point is obviously to eliminate the conjure spells as originally written, which were problematic in a lot of ways. But if they just cut the spells entirely, people will object. So instead, they designed entirely new spells and gave them the same name, to try to sneak the removal of the original conjure spells past people’s radar.
It isnt to sneak

You summon a fey spirits, a single one or a multiple small ones. You can give them an order.

They can

Become mounts for x medium or small humaniods
Search the nearby area for a creature that matches a short description and return with their location
Search for and gather a nonpreccious plant, woods, ore, or rock naturally found in this area
Keep watch of an area and alert you if an enemies approach
Hunt or gather food for x medium or small humaniod
Follow you and spot ambushes
Guard a downed or sleeping ally and keep other beasts, plants, and fey away.

I always assumed that was the point of being able to summon a bunch of beasts. They weren't supposed to fight.
No one wants to deal with one or potentially several playera mass summoning 4 to 8 beasts per person man. The game isnt designed well enough to make this fun, smooth, or elegant. If you really want to deal with this headache-inducing spell, use the original spells from 2014. Backwards compatibility!

But that's what they did.

They nerfed the spells.
They're so different it's hard to call it a nerf. For example, if it's one of those moveable area of effect damage dealers which does damage ever "turn" you enter it or start there, then it's highly part dependent on how much damage it now does. Barbarians knocking foes through the area? Monks grappling and running that same target back through the area on their turn? Really depends how many bites at the apply you get but it could be much more damage than the old conjure spells. It's much more of a tactical change than a nerf.
