The nazis always made good foils for Indy because of the occultism and mysticism that were in the background of Nazi ideology. I have a harder time seeing communists rushing around the globe trying to beat indy to ancient powerful artifacts, given the materialism of their ideology. But, I'm sure I'll be able to suspend my disbelief and drown my skepticism in a tub of popcorn.

... until you remember that Rasputin was Russian, and so was Baba Yaga.

I'm sure they can find occult communists for Indy to battle.

That being said, lots of Nazis fled to South America, post-WW2.

Heh. Most people do not know that the Soviet union was probably much more advanced in terms of esoteric research and applications than the West during the Cold War.
