(lol, I know, I'm just joshin' :))

Nia's eyebrows lift in surprise and she knocks the head of the staff on the floor. She didn't really follow the French, but the tone made it's message clear enough.

"Silence, echo. Every hidden ting is found sooner or later."

She gives the others a sour look.

"Pirates."

"Can we assume then that the rest of these," she cleared her voice as she waved her hand around the room, "Items, are all cursed to some degree? Can someone figure that out without setting them all off at once?"

OOC: Is the spirit released then?

In French, Blaise responds while casting his eyes around the cavern, "The English are not here, restless brother. We need this gold to help spill their blood. Release your curse, go to your rest, and know that your hunger for vengeance will be sated."

Blaise is lying (and I wish that he was proficient in it).

The echo seems to release its possession of Nia's staff. Blaise can't help but feel that isn't the last they'll hear from this dark spirit.

Legend
Peering down the bore of each demi-culverin and the swivel gun using the light from the enchanted stone, Etienne sees no sign of any more oozes. Besides the big guns, there's no other space to hide in the room...except the treasure chest itself.

Zef had been sitting on a rock catching his breath after getting slammed around by the chain. He weaves his fingers and mutter strange words under his breath.

[sblock=Contingency]
Zef is casting Dected magic, if he sees nothing then:
The old dwarf gets up slowly and stumps over to the chest.

He sighs looking at the chest "audentes Fortuna adiuvat" he says before thumping the chest again. if nothing happens he will try to open the chest. [/sblock]

Legend
GM: Old Zef detects magic from within the chest's contents, including conjuration, evocation, necromancy, and transmutation. Once he has the chest open, he can detect conjuration, evocation, and necromancy coming from the latin text while evocation comes from the honey-colored potion and transmutation comes from the wine-colored potion with spiders suspended in it.

As the lid of the old water-damaged chest raises with Old Zef's grasp, the first thing to meet his eyes is the glint of 2,000 Spanish maravedi (copper pieces) which have spilled out of torn sacks. Among the coins is a silver crucifix necklace (10 gp), a black velvet mask inset with citrines (25 gp), a battered viola case containing a masterwork elm viola in need of new strings (40 gp), a potion the color and consistency of honey, a potion filled with wine in which several spiders are suspended, and a thick Latin text entitled Gaudium de Tenebris Astrologie.

Zef grins and turns to Kat. "O' Captain, my captain. You have a treasure, so you have a ship." he says bowing a little.
