Ordering the squad forward, the team heads across the road and moves deeper into the forest. After 30 minutes or so, the forest starts to thin out a bit, and as you make it to a small ridgeline, Lt. McDhol and West look down into a large valley. Within the valley, about half a mile away, the two see a walled castle, straight out of the Lord of the Rings movie. It has a fairly tall wall surrounding a few buildings and towers within. Outside the wall, a small village seems to have grown up. Smoke can be seen rising from most of the buildings, and there are a few people walking around that can be seen with binoculars. They look like they are dressed in rough furs and homespun wool.

To the east of the city there is a large flatten area where a number of huge fat egg like things are sitting up right ([occ] think the Alien movie, except they are about 50 or 60ft tall [/occ]). People are moving around these things, and there seem to be ramps that they are moving crates into and out of the eggs inner workings.

To the west of the city is a stone building that looks like a fort. There are a couple of flags flying over the keep, that look like stylized red dragon.

Something that looks like an old steam-power railroad engine rolls out of the main gate of the city, and heads towards the flattened area. It is towing a couple of open cars behind it.

Suddenly a great roar can be heard from the sky, looking up, through the cloud cover, a red glow can be seen. It gets brighter very quickly and then a flying ship of some kind breaks through. It looks like a flying seashell of some kind, large and bloated. It moves to land near where the other egg things are sitting. Looking through binoculars, one can see steam and smoke rising from where the shell thing landed. Then a ramp seems to form from the side of the thing and a number of the Neanderthal men march off. The first is wearing a large Viking like helm and plate-type armor. The Neanderthal men march to the stream-engine and start piling onto the back cars. There are about 30 of them in all. When all are loaded up, the car thing tows them back into the city.

Then, behind the group, a animal noise can be heard... something is coming this way up the road. Not fast but it is coming...

Sgt. Johnson.

Looking around, Johnson tries to figure the best place for cover from being spotted from the road.

Locke looks for the source of the noise...
Spot roll 19 +7 =26, takes two rounds to do this though
...and he sees a large bison-like creature pulling a cart. There is a humanoid figure under heavy furs at the reins, proding if forward at a slow pace...

Sgt. Johnson looks for a good place to hide...
Hide check roll 12 +6 =18
...getting pretty good cover.

Lt West

Lt West looks over the scene in the valley, comparing the things he sees to his memories of Abydos. Especially, he tries to discern if there are any humans, or just those neanderthals.
"Don't like the flags at the fort. Red dragon, like Ra. Flattened area east, some kind of airport, possibly spaceport. Connected to city via steam engine. Odd mix of technologies."
Hearing the sound of the animal, Jerrell seeks a hiding place as well. Remembering the incident with the neanderthals, he tries to find out if he can control the sensation he had when these creatures moved near, and test it on the approaching cart once it is at about the same distance.

Major Ben Torie

"Phew," Torie hisses through his teeth, clicking his tongue inside his mouth. "S'like we've wandered onto the set of a bad fantasy movie..."

He nods at West's comments, absent-mindedly moving along with him to find a spot to wait and watch for the passerby. It was to be expected, really; this close to the enemy meant that there was going to be fairly high traffic. Question being whether it was going to be a problem or simply some random yokel.

"Keep your eyes open and your mouths shut," he mutters into the radio. "If we can let them pass us without incident, so be it - otherwise, get ready to make sure they don't get out of here."

Taking cover, the cart slowly comes into view. The driver's face can be seen, looks human, just wearing a lot of fur to stay warm. Within a few minutes the cart passes your position as it slowly makes it's way down the ridge and into the valley. It looks like the cart is hauling firewood or shady lumber.

Looking back into the valley, through binoculars and riflescopes, the group sees one of those 'polar-bear' men walking out of the fort outside the village. He is carrying a huge axe and one of those musket pistols sheathed. He seems to be fumbling with something and then you see that he looks like he is smoking a cigarette. Coughing a few times, he continues to puff on it.
