Wizards of the Coast has just shared a video delving into the upcoming One D&D Dungeon Master’s Guide, due for release in 2024.

I enjoyed the 2014 DMG and its by far my favorite cover art out of the three. It could stand some restructuring for sure. I used my DMG alot while preparing for my games. 2024 seems like it will be all that much better. Really hoping for Greyhawk but I'd rather have a whole book dedicated to the setting.

And people always criticize the 2014 DMG! That's as good as a Tome of Understanding (which is a very rare wondrous item).

I'm interested. I read the 5e DMs guide precisely once, from cover to cover. It was OK but nothing of real use for running games for me.

I like the tables for customizing magic items. I've used those a lot.

I don’t think there has ever been a DMG that really tells you how to DM. So that’s something.

I didn't do 4E, but it was my understanding that the 4E DMG did a lot of that, as did the 3E DMG2.

4E DMG 2 is also very good. They are all quite valuable regardless of current rule set.

Looking over the chapter structure again, I agree with @Parmandur that the surprise stuff is likely a setting and its map, which would let the campaign construction chapter be its own thing, with references to the fuller setting at the end.

If they intend to release a Forgotten Realms setting book in 2024 alongside these core books, I can see the 2024 DMG including Greyhawk. But without that on-ramp, I think it's more likely to be the Forgotten Realms.

If they wanted to do something smaller and more self-contained, though, they have other throwback options. I don't know how many people would be agitating for it, but Thunder Rift would work great as a freebie setting taking up only one chapter of the DMG. (Sorry, Jakandor.)

My first guess about chapter 8 and the poster map was a sample adventure and the accompanying dungeon map. An example starter adventure to kickstart a campaign. Just a guess, though.

In the video, Perkins did mention plans to include some short sample adventure(s) to serve as examples of how to go about creating your own.
