The Walking Dead (s7 spoilers!)

Wednesday Boy

The Nerd WhoFell to Earth
How does Negan have a huge, well coordinated force with such tactics. if he recruited half his team this way, then surely somebody would shoot him.

Negan wasn't recruiting Rick (and his crew) into Negan's team (the Saviors). Negan was introducing Rick into his extortion racket. Rick and his crew aren't part of the gang. They are the shop owners that are going to pay the gang to not beat them up and destroy their store.

Ultimately, Rick had the chance to attack him, and it ended up simply being that Negan, who's no spring chicken is faster. Is this his basic mutant power, that he's a faster, better fighter?

I think Rick was also still reeling from seeing Glen and Abraham murdered and he was hesitant after seeing the punishment for striking against Negan.

He clearly had a readied action and rules are rules. ;)

I'm pondering the TWD from the angle of hidden meaning/authorial intent.

I'm reading Simon Pegg's autobiography, and apparently that's what he studied in college was film analysis. So he looked at the original Romero films in that light and saw symbolism about consumerism, communism and such.

What is TWD teaching us or saying about us?

Because right now, it says that when the stuff goes down, people are jerks and only the jerks will survive and that will bring us all down further.

Is that the lesson? That life is hard, and when it gets harder, everybody's going to make it worse?

You should probably hold that question until the series is over.

And really is Rick that much different than Negan ultimately? When they found Alexandria he said that basically if they don't fall into line with what thier group wanted they will just take over the place, by force. Did they try to negotiate a more reasonable deal for Hilltop when promising to destroy Negan? No, they said give us half your stuff, with an implied or else after the deal was done. Though Rick wouldn't use a vampire bat, he'd just shoot you with that sweet Colt Python. Rick isn't a nutter like Negan appears to be, but he has become quite the ruthless person.

for now at least I'm sure. No way Rick doesn't plan for some payback down the line.

In my 49 years on this planet, I have come to the conclusion that there is no situation that is so bad that people can't make it worse.

Yet I'm still an optimist...because what can be made worse can be made better.

Still, if we get too much torture porn this season, I'll probably stop watching TWD.

I think what Negan has done, ultimately, is provide Rick a swift kick to the moral compass. Negan is what a Rick could become if he continues down the authoritarian path he- along with some others in the group- has been traveling of late.

I hope your right while watching Ricks descent into what he has become I have been hoping that he will redeem himself somehow.

Oh guys Glen and Abraham didn't die... there having a tea party under the dumpster.

One last thought given what happens to people when they die anyone think when Glen said yo Maggie I'll find you slightly sinister.

Nah. That was his final, deep "I love you."

I mean, given the context of TWD, I can see the potential double meaning, but the manner of his death would obviously preclude the darker interpretation.

BTW, for those watching both shows, American Horror Story: Roanoke also took a toll on characters' heads in the most recent episode...
