While the rest of the site seems perfectly legit, the goofy and improbable design of the BEAR robot makes me think that this site might be somebody's final project for a webdesign class or something. I've seen them before, and usually the only indication to the uninformed that it isn't a real company is the content on the site.

If that is the case, then they are probably D&D geeks who chose the name as an in-joke.

I'm sure it's just that. Notice how the copyright blurb at the end of the pages is still in 2005?

That's a common error on websites of smaller companies. If it's a fake company, they went to a lot of trouble. The average college project wouldn't have that much content.

Also, if you google "Vecna Technologies, Inc." you get some hits on other sites:

http://www.techcollaborative.org/members.aspx?member_id=Vecna
http://www.macraesbluebook.com/search/company.cfm?company=859841
http://www.atmeda.org/conf/2003/2003exhibitors.htm

The last one is from a list of exhibitors at a 2003 convention.

Scary indeed.

If it's an in-joke, the USAToday.com is in on it.

I think it's just a coincidence. I mean how many companies have D&D as their abbreviation?
