There is a Background Feat at first Level. But literally every book since Summer 2020 has had that included.

The Class changes are adjustments within the same power budget.

This is why I am saying that you want it both ways: you are describing a qualitative change here, but then suggesting it is irrelevant. Both things cannot be true.

Simply reading the playtest material.

The changes are about vibes, not power. We have reports on this forum of people playing the 2014 and 2024 versions of the same Class at the table and not having any issues. 2014 and 2024 characters can mix in the same party seamlessly.

Not irrelevant, but more of a quantitative change than qualitative.
