Wizards In Winter - Low-Level Thread (DM: Son of Meepo, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

Marrgash takes the plank from El Chupacabra as Merri approaches.

"This pixies not my pet!" he says with a laugh, "I just didn't think it fair to leave him in the cage at the inn. I'm sure he does have a name, but he's not told me yet; I've not heard him say a word although he clearly understands plenty."

When Elvidra makes herself known, Marrgash gives a little bow "Good to meet you," he says, before she tells her story and starts to weep.

"This must be difficult for you," he says, "to oppose your sister. If there is anything we can do to help I am sure we would be happy to hear it. Is there anything more you can tell us about these ingredients, or the ritual, that we should know?" he asks, empathising with her plight.

Merri is a little embarrassed she assumed the pixie warrior was a familiar. While she traveled many places in the world, her self isolation during her travels left her fairly naive. She quietly asserts that she would not jump to conclusions. These thoughts are still in her mind when Elvidra lets herself be found and explains the circumstances.

"We can do that, we can get those Hearts!"

She does not return Ilex's touch, instead Elvidra pulls back and wipes her eyes, allowing herself to smile a little bit.

"Really? You would be willing to help me?"

When asked about a map she shakes her head.

"The island is tiny, those of use who live here have no need of maps."

She pulls a stick free of the frozen earth and begins to trace a crude map in the snow.

She starts with a crude outline of the island and then draws a series of houses to indicate the village where you all now stand.

She then draws Mount Snow.

"I'd advise you to stay clear of Mount Snow, the highest peak in the island. It is Elciri's realm and the one place on the island where I am forbidden. Not only is the tigerclaw's village is nestled into the north face of the mountain but there is a terrible dragon that lairs there. Besides, Elciri magical storms will make passage near the mountain impossible."

To the east of the mountain, she draws a series of smaller peaks.

"This is the Cragwall, where the Heart of Earth would be found."

Southwest of that she draws rounded hills.

"The Snowy Hills where the Heart of Ice is located."

Southwest of that a copse of trees.

"Here would be the Heart of Wood."

She finally connects the mountains and village with a river.

Elvidra wipes here eyes with the cloth she'd been handed and immediately begins to tear up again.

OOC: Just remembered that mistletoe is a parasitic plant. Heh. Son of Meepo, any idea how much time we have left? We had a 20 hour clock right?

"Don't you worry, miss, we'll take care of everything. Hell, we may even go slay that dragon if we finish this errand with a few hours left. Alright," Caim says, turning to the group and dropping her oddly cheerful tone for her usual terse manner, "looks like our work is cut out for us. The fastest way to do this is probably to work from the forest to the hills to the crags, and then float the river back down to the dock, if we can find a vessel. Is there anything I haven't thought of that we should do before we head off? Remember that the clock is ticking."

GM: You don't need to worry about the exact time left. You will have sufficient time to tackle the three locations in any order as well as take a reasonable number of short rests along the way. The limit keeps you from taking more than one extended rest while still earning the major quest xp.

Merri looks down at the map, then around at the various landmarks she can see from the village.

"No problem, I'll get us there. That's a good plan, Caim. Let's go!"

Nalkyr lowered himself down to his haunches, squinting at the map. The young eladrin drew out one of his daggers, tapping at the map.

"We can pwobably head west from hewe, to the twees." he said, then tapped the dagger point northwards. "It'd be easy to head nawf, then. Hills, then Cwagwall."

Nalkyr pushed to his feet, sliding the dagger away and tugging his cloak around him once more.

"But I'm no twacker. That's just my thoughts."

"I shall wait for you in Sunny Glade, it's a clearing in the woods just west of this village, beyond the river. It is forbidden to my sister and I doubt she would send her servants into my realm, where I can most easily defend myself."

You depart the quaint village, cross the river via a bridge, escorting Elvidra back to her glade. She smiles and waves as you leave, wishing you good fortune on your travels.

You spend the next two hours making your way through a dense forest of trees. Though it is cool, here, winter has not quite reached this part of the island. The leaves are mostly drained of there color and though and some have fallen into small piles around the base of their trees.

You follow a game trail that Elvidra mentioned in passing until you come to an overgrown part of the forest. In the middle of it all is a small clearing at the center of which is an ancient oak. An eladrin woman tends to the grove, most likely its caretaker.
