Pathfinder 1E IC - Tideruler: The Fall of Laholt

Neurotic

I plan on living forever. Or die trying.
OOC: I read MetaVoid comment not as call for general initiative roll, but like a way to resolve PLAYERS actions in order, but before enemy acts

OOC: I might change my action too, depending on how much cavalry moves as a unit. My illusion wouldn't work if they are in the middle of the charge (and pits wouldn't work on flying mounts)...I will have to make wall of thorns or stone … I'll figure something out once I see new map

[OOC: six turns have passed since the end of the last battle. Effects that are still within duration are considered active. AoE spells and effects on Drow are still active, but far to the right of the present map - a 'zoom in' on part of the western area of the battlefield. Also, since we're looking towards the same direction as far as initiative goes, I'll work your actions in order, but before I play the enemies - thank God! :) It makes things a lot simpler to me and it gives you guys a better chance to flash out your powers and strategies.]

ARDUNIEL

The elf's voice whispers the strange, arcane incantation, bringing the sound as if it detached itself from his lips. The whisper rises, reaching out the enemies. Two of the riders seem unshaken by the spell, but the third one - the woman in black armor near the southern flank - pulls the nightmare back with a furious gesture.

"Nay! NAY! What foul trick is this? It is IMPOSSIBLE! You might have captured my brothers in arms, coward surface-dweller, but you will fall by my arms! Remember the name of Thea the Black and speak of it with fear and respect before your weakling gods as they take your soul! - she explodes towards her own mounted companion, who now pulls his own mount back, trying to avoid the impact!

"Thea, what madness befalls your mind?" - the rider in the far south answers. "What treachery is this?" - without wincing, the rider arms himself against her plunging the banner on the floor and pulling out his own sword! "Aah, perhaps our enemy fools your feeble mind, but I, Tulio of Oda, will not fall victim to parlor tricks! - he rides towards her, preparing to ram her down from her mount!

ALICE

Contemplating the scene, Alice rolls her small contraption between her fingers, feeling the shield cover her as a layer of glue. First the feet, then the legs, and then her torso and arms, up until her head, her body becomes enveloped by the shield. While the spell takes effect, her mind races, capturing the smallest details from her enemies. The first thing she notices is how tractable the nightmares are. Such unruly creatures would never abide by mortal creatures mounting them - let alone rein them with those black chains... As usual, her eyes roll through the scene, rewarding her mind with a simple, yet lethal, detail: the beasts are commanded through the use of a magic item, that's for sure! She wouldn't be surprised if the creatures were actually invoked by such an artifact! Without it, either the beasts would vanish from this plane or they would break free, leaving the riders behind... Now, it could be the metallic rein, or the horse vest, or the saddle.... But she can't tell which exactly.

DAXIO

Daxio's magical detection denounces no small amount of mystic forces emanating from the riders. Aside from the nightmares - they themselves magical creatures - it seems clear that the helmets hold some sort of protective magic, as well as the armor. The weapons are under some sort of elemental effect, which turns them into flaming gear - but they're not magical in themselves. The nightmares' mail overcoats are a point of interest... They're magical items! It's surprising to see the Drow caring that much for their mounts...

INITIATIVE ORDER:

DAXIO
ARDUNIEL
ZYARA
BATKNIGHT
ARANEL, ALICE AND MOSS

[Ok, I'll wait on Aranel's fireball confirmation - or on another action. To go: Daxio, Zyara, Batknight, Aranel, Moss. I also included an observation for Daxio, since he's the first of the round. It doesn't mean I forgot Moss' perception test - or the ungodly amounts of perception that the other characters have!I'll just include the info as appropriate... ;)]

EDIT: Most of this post did not happen. See my next post below.

Zyara rushes forward 30 feet then does a few handsprings, tumbles, and vaults to land at Z12.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1D20+23 = [20]+23 = 43 DC was 38 for the knights at Y12 and AA11

She spends a ki point to gain Elemental Fury on unarmed strikes for 6 rounds. She performs three trip attempts against the three nightmares at full BAB. DC seems to be 30 for the nightmares
Three trip attacks: 1D20+26 = [13]+26 = 39
1D20+26 = [14]+26 = 40
1D20+26 = [19]+26 = 45

The three mounts at X12, Z11, and Z13 fall. Their riders must make DC 15 Ride checks or take 1d6 damage from the fall. This provokes 9 AoO, 2 against each horse and 1 against each rider assuming they fall prone when they fall. Thanks to my Dex and Combat Reflexes I have exactly 9 AoOs per round.

Against X12, X12, Y12: 1D20+22 = [7]+22 = 29 hit I hope, you didn't list the AC of the nightmares
2D8+9 = [7, 1]+9 = 17 + 6
1D20+22 = [10]+22 = 32 hit I hope
2D8+9 = [5, 3]+9 = 17 + 1
1D20+22 = [7]+22 = 29 miss I guess. I don't know what 30 (24/26) means.
2D8+9 = [1, 6]+9 = 16 + 5

Against Z11, Z11, AA11: 1D20+22 = [11]+22 = 33 hit
2D8+9 = [4, 1]+9 = 14 + 3
1D20+22 = [2]+22 = 24 hit?
2D8+9 = [1, 6]+9 = 16 + 4
1D20+22 = [10]+22 = 32 hit
2D8+9 = [3, 2]+9 = 14 + 3
(Zyara's unarmed strikes overcome magic, cold iron, silver, and lawful DR)

Against Z13, Z13, AA13: 1D20+22 = [16]+22 = 38 hit
2D8+9 = [2, 7]+9 = 18 +2
1D20+22 = [1]+22 = 23 hit?
2D8+9 = [5, 1]+9 = 15 + 3
1D20+22 = [15]+22 = 37 hit
2D8+9 = [5, 1]+9 = 15 + 5

I forgot to roll the elemental fury damage. I'm just going to roll for all 9 and run them in the order seen above:
_: 1D6 = [6] = 6
1D6 = [1] = 1
1D6 = [5] = 5
1D6 = [3] = 3
1D6 = [4] = 4
1D6 = [3] = 3
1D6 = [2] = 2
1D6 = [3] = 3
1D6 = [5] = 5

Zyara still has two iterative strikes at +17/+12. She uses the both against the nightmare at X12 and uses her stunning fist on the first strike:
First strike is stunning fist: 1D20+17 = [18]+17 = 35 Hit
2D8+1D6+9 = [2, 7]+[4]+9 = 22
1D20+12 = [9]+12 = 21 Hit?
2D8+1D6+9 = [3, 1]+[4]+9 = 17

Nightmare at X12 takes 63 hp of damage or is dying. If not dying, it needs to make a DC 25 Fort save, or it is staggered for [roll0] rounds.
Nightmare at Z11 takes 37 hp of damage. Knight at AA11 takes 17 damage.
Nightmare at Z13 takes 38 hp of damage. Knight at AA13 takes 20 damage.

"We accept your challenge."

Hero
Batknight strides forward to do engage the leader of the knights closely on the heels of Zyara, and while he cannot help but be impressed by her prodigious talents he keeps his mind focused on the task at hand. He meets his foe and raises his blade but once - and he strikes true. "What is most inferior is that brutish ideology the drow force upon their young. You should have questioned your elders more - now you will not get the chance."

[sblock=Actions]
Moves to W12 and attacks once: +3 Adamantine Longsword: 1D20+24 = [13]+24 = 37
1D8+12 = [6]+12 = 18

That should be a hit I am guessing even without the flanking bonus added in.[/sblock]

OOC: Ooops. I'm out of practice. You can't move and full attack in Pathfinder. D'oh.

So. Zyara lands in the place intended and only attacks the horse and rider in Z12:

One trip attacks: 1D20+26 = [13]+26 = 39

AoOs: Against X12, X12, Y12: 1D20+22 = [7]+22 = 29 hit I hope, you didn't list the AC of the nightmares

2D8+9 = [1, 6]+9 = 16 + 5

Nightmare at X12 takes 41 hp of damage.

Moss rushes forward right behind the monk girl. But he doesn't strike at the horse-creature, he barely reaches its knees anyhow. Instead, he launches himself upwards and meets the gaze of the beast for the barest of moments. The gem embedded in his forehead shines for a moment and the mount shakes its head as if affected by something. It glares balefully at the diminutive opponent, but there is no other effect visible.

OOC: [MENTION=813]jmucchiello[/MENTION]
Nightmare AC: 22 (13/17)
Also, you passed nightmare smoke for which you should roll saves? Or two, three?

[sblock=Actions]
Move: U12
Acrobatics to avoid Nightmare or riders OA: 1D20+15 = [17]+15 = 32 - if not needed (not sure about the lance reach) I'll need it next round
Save vs Smoke: 1D20+16 = [14]+16 = 30 - SAFE

Standard: medusa mask daily power, petrify!
Nighmare save vs petrification Fort DC 15: 1D20+8 = [19]+8 = 27 - RESISTED

OOC: I rolled really high this round both for myself and the enemy :)

[/sblock]

OOC: I thought they were flatfooted when initiative was rolled. So they would not have had a free action yet to create the smoke.

Also, that smoke is even more annoying as every attack (including those made by the nightmares and riders) have a 20% miss chance. And using a lance on a nightmare is just dumb as anything more that 5' away has a 50% miss chance.

But it shouldn't really matter:
Fort Saves DC 16: 1D20+16 = [15]+16 = 31
1D20+16 = [10]+16 = 26
1D20+16 = [19]+16 = 35

[OOC: clarifying, the nightmares are not using smoke cloud now. I understand this might be read as a necessary move, but description leaves it as optional on the original sheet, if I recall correctly. So you guys don't need to worry with those rolls for now. Also, consider that the riders might have something to protect themselves from such effects, if the smoke gets used at all... After all, why would they choose to mount these dangerous, unruly things, if they're so troublesome? Hint: read Daxio's description for the start of the round. :) EDIT: let me be more specific: the sheet says that they do release the smoke. Personally, I understood it as an optional power, reinforcing the idea that you do not need to roll the tests now. It could be read as a mandatory condition, though. Either way, you don't really thing they'd climb in their backs having to fight the smoke to strike their enemies, do you? ;)]

[OOC: Also, yes, they were flat-footed. And the numbers that follow the AC are for touch and flat-footed attacks in order, jmuchiello. ;)]
