S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

The imp responds to Beamer. "Gambling. Drawing a card is a gamble. Don't you like to gamble? Isn't that why you're in the temple of Jarreth? Jarreth favors the bold."

As to what's beyond the dark arch, "Oh, boring. Some friends of your are in there, I think."

Banion finds himself in a short corridor, about 15 feet wide, and 30 feet long. There is a door at each end. In front of the far door is what appears to be a large armored man. He, if it is a he, is wearing black half-plate armor, with a red tunic. He stands so still, Banion wonders if it may be a statue. He holds a greatsword, point down, resting on the floor.

ANy chance of using stealth here?

Banion, from a distance, will examine the fa door. Does it appear to be locked? Any obvious keys on the big man?

Still troubled by the wounds he received from the black queen, Eusebius decides that it would be prudent to heal himself at this point.

Reasoning, after the experience of the chess game, that the party is less likely to face a common foe than individual challenges, he beseeches Hyrag to convert the blessing of potential to the more tangible blessing of healing. For whatever reason, however, the healing offered is not as great as he had hoped.

Beamer whaffles, thinking Jareth may give them a break for playing the game, but hesitant to bring futher risk to his important cargo. When the imp says his friends may be behind the door, he decides the imp is actually trying to get him to NOT take a card, so decides to take on. "Eusebius, I think this is one of Jareth's tests. I think I have to play." He approaches the small table slowly, his eyes on the cards in front of him. He reaches out for a card and just before he touches them, shifts his gaze to the imp's face and says, "How much chance for weal and how much for woe?"

What does the imp seem to think of Beamer taking a card? Is he excited, fearful, impassive, mischevious?

Does Eusebius read any reaction from the imp to Beamer's approach or reaching for the card?

Banion sees no way to hide. Light seems to gently illuminate the corridor from the ceiling. The corridor is completely bare. The closer 'door' is easily reached, but no key, panel or other way to open it is evident.

The knight 'statue' doesn't move. There is a dull red panel beside the door behind the knight. Banion could easily move past the figure and reach the door, though that would put him in range of the greatsword if the knight were to move.

------------------

The imp smiles, revealing pointed incisors, when Beamer reaches for a card. He stares blankly at the halfling when asked what the odds were for weal or woe. He shakes his head. "Weal or woe?" he shrugs his shoulders. "The fun is in the gamble! And listen, if you do get woe, you can always draw again. You do have some currency, don't you? You know, chess pieces? Like this one." From somewhere behind him he produces a small white king, just the size of the black ones picked up off the board after each battle.

"This one is yours by the way." says the little devil, holding out to Beamer. He then jerks it back. "After you finish with this deck, that is."

The little devil is somewhat alien. It seems clear, though, that it would enjoy seeing Beamer (or Eusebius) gamble with the deck.

Banion will hurl a mindblade at the red panel, staying well away from the statue. A new mindblade replaces the thrown one nearly instantly.

As the room darkens and reappears, Ogrin's comment is simply, "Now what?". He sits down to have a snack, taking advantage of the sudden calm, and when he's done, he approaches the door. He tries to push it, pull it pry it, and if that fails, presses the plate.

OOC: Sorry for the delay.

Beamer starts as his piece is revealed. He wants it, but does have any pieces to draw more than once, and does not think he should even if he did. He is momentarily tempted to call upon his arcane powers and take it by force. "Since I have no pieces, how about you give me the white piece after I draw my one free card?"

Beamer will then draw his wand of scorching ray and then draw a card.

OOC:
Probably not the right decision, but it is what Beamer would do. Hopefully it will cause to harm to Eusebius!
