This thread is in the general forum, not the 4e forum. Yet, this general forum has almost become a second 4e / pro-4e forum... The OP is quitting 4e because it's no more D&D to him. Me I think I am going to leave ENworld, because it has become almost completely a 4e forum.

Aww, don't go completely, at least. There's still a 3E forum, and as long as people stay, there'll be activity there. It is really annoying that in the general forum any critique of 4E is ganged upon as an attack and edition war, yet no one seems to get angry when those same posters trash 3E mechanics they don't like. But really, just think of the general forum as a form of low-grade amusement, like Jerry Springer. Watch them duke it out and say unbelievably silly things, occasionally interjecting with sensible arguments and well crafted debate just to confuse the masses. Hopefully it won't stay this way, but for now i've learned to stop taking the general forum too seriously.

Admittedly, I concede to your point here (to a point.. I need to stop using the word point).

There are a few reasons why general rpg chat has become swarmed with 4e posts lately. The largest one probably due to it being 'the new thing'. People want to talk about the new or debate and all of that is just fine.

I certainly admit that a lot of what I've been getting ground down about is how good debates or questions get torn apart by the 'beanbag sniper' effect, and yeah, sometimes I'll post without thinking (I need to remember the count to 3 rule).

I honestly wish there was more discussion of general rpg news. But there's been a lot of fragmenting lately. I'd love to keep up on Paizo news here, or see more 3.5 posts, or 2e posts. I even miss Diaglo's posts about how ODD was the one true system.

I'd like to believe that things will mellow back out again. I think that once OGL game material (Such as Pathfinder) is actually released, or when more products are out from other systems there may be more general news about them. But since the biggest 'news machine' lately has been 4e releases, it just seems to flood other things out.

I think I'll just shut my yap about things and try to avoid the more Ire inducing threads. I broke my own rule about taking things into account using my own assumptions as gospel already a couple times.

Here's hoping you do stick around even if its just to rummage around on the 3.5 pages. I feel that the more folks we lose interested in non 4e news, the more fragmented things become. :/

I'm with you there. Even the non-4e threads are starting to get the edition war jabs in here and there.

I don't really give a rat's rectum what game any individual plays, but I'm tired of the pro-4e gamers having to jump into threads that don't even bash 4e so that they can defend it.

I'm sure the opposite happens in the 4e forums, but I don't know as I avoid them.

OTOH, I agree on this: why do threads like this get started? It's almost an invitation to get another edition wars thread going.

If you like 4e, play it. You don't need to advertise you like it. We'll know by the fact you post in the 4e forums.

If you hate 4e, don't play it. You don't need to advertise that you don't like it. We'll know back your lack of posts in the 4e forums.

Is it just me, or has 4e single-handedly fragmented the gaming community more than anything ever has in the past?

I think it is too early to tell. As hong points out, 3e caused some fragmentation, and for 3rd edition we even have Conan, True20, Arcana Evolved, Iron Heroes, OSRIC, Castles&Crusades and more, providing helpful nudges to those who wanted to "abandon" D&D.

Ultimately, I don't think 4e will prove to be a more fragmenting edition. Once the initial reactions fade, people will get on with their games, be they 4e or 3e, or 1e or WFRP or what have you.

In theory, I think Magic, WoW and even Vampire has fragmented the roleplaying community more than D&D4. And live roleplaying of course.

/M

I didn't say that it was terribly constructive, either. But posting to say that seems somewhat hypocritical, doesn't it?
I'm just trying to figure out what the GSL has to do with sparkle britches abandoning 4e for True 20?

:hmm:

Why's everybody gots to be so fragmentary?

I play Magic, Vampire, LARP (Boffer and V), 3e, 4e, GURPS, Champions, Warhammer, etc...

Why does there have to be system wars? Can't we all just get along?

;)

...and now I'm just trying to figure out what you are trying to say.

The GSL has nothing to do with it?
Does it?

I don't know. Thread title mentions it.... but his post does not convey any feelings on the GSL...

Hey wait a minute. Was this moved?

Damn it, I bet it was moved from the 4e/GSL subforum.
