A better way to handle absences?

Wouldn't it be better to have an absent thread? Maybe stickied?

So people could just subscribe to that and find out who's missing.

Seems like it would be easier for everyone involved.

If I understand the current system people post a new thread talking about their absence, to Talk the Talk, right?

Wouldn't it be better to have some way to have that information "pushed" to the community. Instead of forcing people to search for it?

Depends. Folks not in my games I have no opinion on whether they are absent or not, so the signal-to-noise would very from person to person.

I prefer just posting in each game's OOC thread.

Fair enough, but if you log-in and you see Player-X-in-your-game has the last post on the absent thread then that's something.

And if you've got a "missing" player, instead of going to talk-the-talk and scrolling through page after page you can just go to that one thread (either because you've subscribed to it, or its been stickied).

This would, of course, be ideal....

But, from having observed things during my relatively brief time here, this doesn't seem to be what some/many people actually do.
(I have one or two players who are very consistent in this, and it's been a huge help to me; so its my preferred way to run games. I was just surprised to see that in most other games the "absent thread" method is used.)

I suppose posting in 10+ forums is a lot to ask? I don't know. I'm not familiar with how the current system developed.

It can be a lot of work to remember all of your OOCs (some slip through). Sometime I (and others) do both: OOCs and a thread.

I check on folk's active times a lot through their profile. Plus, since I'm a supporter, I can search for posts/threads by them looking for "I'm leaving for ..."
