Holy Symbols: are they God-specific? Can they be altered?

The group i'm DMing will find this item very soon and since i did change the cleric of Bahamut to Melora, i was thinking on how to have the cleric use the symbol.

When the cleric will find the symbol, he will have a little chat with Bahamut (yes, roleplaying) and he will need to prove his worth to him by vowing to destroy the evil forces of the Keep. Either simply all by RP, or i'll add some Religion checks if he falters a bit. Once he proves his worth, an agreement between him and Bahamut will let the power flow through him until Kalarel is defeated. After the whole adventure is finished, Melora (RP once more) will grant him is very own holy symbol when he delivers the other symbol to a Bahamut temple.

Oooh, how about this: Holy symbols are just a blank disk of metal until a cleric picks it up/weilds it/whatever, at which point it morphs to the appropriate holy symbol.

And then one dreaded day, the cleric of Bahumut is shocked with horror as his beloved bahamut symbol somehow becomes that of Asmodeus.

Whuile I definitely see the usefulness of the creative solutions posted in this thread, I'd say the problem can be avoided entirely by applying the Wish List/Parcel system.

Ninja'ed.

Versimilitude is not for everyone, especially many 4E players.
But of course!

I'd definitely say verisilmarillion verdigris vortigern verisimilitude is strictly a matter of taste, and thus not really worth arguing about.

Personally, I like both fun and [the V word]. But when one gets in the way of the other, my own personal idiosyncratic notion of fun tends to win out.
