Ranger w/2 bastard swords

Hmm. I've usually seen "3.x" to cover both 3E and 3.5 with a single term. I know I've personally always used 3E to refer to third edition, and 3.5 to refer to, uh, 3.5.
I've seen 3e cover both, particularly when used in comparison to 4e. Like our forums do here, as you noticed.

3.x is used by those who are conscious wish to include both.

I'm sorry, I should have said 3.0 instead of 3e, that would have saved a half dozen posts. I'll go hide under a rock now. :p
Eh, the actual question got answered in the first 5 posts. Now it's time for pointless fighting.

Would you like to join in?

Size matters

I can't believe that no one said anything negative about wielding two bastard swords!
I expect that it is legal but there is a reason no person in the history of mankind has ever done it. If you happen to be 9 ft tall it would help. How about if your character was a Dwarf.

Rapier & dagger is traditional, longsword & shortsword as well, two scimitars I can see, two hammer equiped dwarf - sure. I think two long swords is a strech but what the heck...just at least be a tall character.

So yes, I think it is cheesy. two long swords could be cool and scary as heck without being absurd (unless you could use weapons one size larger and then the bastard swords would be long swords for a really really big fighter)

A katana is a bastard sword under D&D rules, isn't it? (At the least, it was in 3E and nothing indicates that their definitions on weapon correlations has changed to my knowledge.) Quite a few people have dual-wielded those; it's never been the dominant fighting style for them but I imagine that's why only heroic characters of a specific character class with a specific feat can do it.

If (big if) were talking real world and DnD weapons, katanas are 'longswords' with long handles- give yourself the +1 damage for versatile- go ahead you deserve it;): katanas are traditionally 70-90cm long (longer swords were Odachi), 'bastard swords' are more like 115-140cm much longer than 90cm ! All a bit moot really, DnD is not medieval Europe or Japan:)

But anyway no human has ever hurled balls of fire from their fingers so I have no probs with the dual bastard sword wielding PC IMC
