Forked Thread: A little PHB 2 info

Also, I warn folks not to get too hung up on the "obvious" names.

Remember, WotC gave us the Warlord, Beguiler, Swordmage, Duskblade, Warblade, Swordsage, and Ardent.

These are all names that don't really tell you a lot about the class, almost just plucked out of the air by smashing two words together.

The W class might end up being another War(Insert).

Primal:
Druid - Striker/Controller
Barbarian - Defender
Warden - Leader

Arcane:
Bard - Leader
Sorcerer - Controller
Swordmage - Defender

Divine:
Theurge - Controller
Inquisitor - Striker

I'm going to go with these, I think.

I do not believe we'll see Illusionists at all for PHB2.

And I do not believe we'll see a primal controller. Why?

We know that two of the classes in PHB2 will be controllers (source). The Sorcerer is an arcane controller (Source). That leaves at least one.

From two different sources we've had hints of a Divine controller:

Mearls mentioning, when discussing PHB2, "a cleric that's a bit more on the spellcaster-y side" (source, and then there's this:
On The Tome, Andy Collins was asked about upcoming Controllers, and said they're still in the early design phase of the next wave of classes, but mentioned the Sorcerer is possible for that role, and they're thinking about a Divine Controller and some form of Psionic Controller. (It's at about 23:25 in the podcast.) He also mentioned "you're not going to see the Cleric throwing around Flame Strike type powers really frequently", but "when we get around to a Divine Controller class he will probably have more of those type of effects". (At about 27:30.)
I'm very suspicious the druid will have some primal controller in them, as part of their "Hybrid role".
That's basically what I just said, Rechan! :p

I'd imagine the Druid's weather spells give it a solid Controller aspect that'll prevade the class. So while it is Hybrid, I think it'll lean towards Controller, especially with it's daily abilities.

Here's my question: if Martial powers are Exploits, Arcane Powers are Spells and Divine Powers are Prayers ... what are Primal Powers?

Grunts, mostly. ;)

If druid is the closest to a primal controller we get, I really hope there's an option to build just for controlling and eschew shapeshifting.

Is it so much to ask for a weather/environment-controlling spellcaster who doesn't turn into a damn bear to maul people? >_<
