I was in a game where the DM wanted to grind us through. 30 combats, ending with Orcus. We made it to level 7. It was a lot of fun, but things definitely didn't go the way that he expected them to. He originally thought that they would take 5 or 10 minutes per combat. I laughed at him. I started calling off the hours about 3 hours and 4 levels into it.
There was a lot of cool stuff happening all around. I wish that I had been able to hit more often, but things were pretty nifty.

My group's doing something similar. I came up with a pretty neat, fairly simply plot that carries the characters through 1-3 encounters per level, from level 1 up through 29 or 30. We started with Kobold Hall (back of the DMG) and every encounter is pulled straight out of the MM (either solo encounters or the listed Level X encounter with each entry), so we should be doing things exactly by the books.

We're at level 2 so far, and about ready to fight a Black Dragon. We'll see if they can take on a solo of that level. They survived the White Dragon at level 1 with some VERY lucky natural 20s on two PCs' Death Saves.

Interesting little spike at 11th level, on the poll. I guess some people have tried something out at 11th level to see how Paragon tier play works out.

Funnily enough, I'm one of them. :)

I'm running KotS and the group have just made level 2, and I also ran a short campaign at 11th level to try it out. I'm playing in another campaign that had it's first session last night, so we're all level 1 in that one.

We've now played all three tiers. The epic campaign started last Friday at halfway through 21st level. They're almost to 22nd. Lots of fun, lots of cool powers. More info in my sig.

1st-4th level in KotS, so far up to 3rd level in my 4e regular campaign, and several one- or two-shots at 10th and 13th (? iirc, might have been 14th).

I'm currently running a campaign that has just reached level 5.

I am playing in a campaign that has just reached level 2.

At Gencon I was able to play the delve which was 3rd [or was it 4th?]. I was also in the qualifying event where they had level 9 characters.

So, I have experience with level 1 through 4, but a very small of experience at level 9 [we only really had 2 encounters, albeit long ones].

Would that DMing for a group at that level or playing as a player at that level? Either one? One or the other?

I haven't played on the player's end yet. I have DMed levels 1-7 and now 11, as I just bumped my players up 4 levels (with an in-game reason for them reaching paragon - think Final Fantasy I class change quest).

In a month or so, I'll probably get to play my first level 1 character!
