Describe your vision of Gamma World where you live

Doing Gamma World in my hometown area means BEING UNDER WATER. Goodbye southeast Texas, hello bottom of ocean.

That being said, I kind of imagine much of Houston as a bay now surrounded by swamp with a bunch of mutants of mixed white, black, and Vietnamese ancestry living in the swamp growing rice and fishing shrimp and crab out of the ocean.

Well Scottsdale is below sea level, so it is either at the bottom of the ocean or a very large lake. If neither than hopefully its a radiated hole in the ground.

Interesting. . . I live within view of the NORAD command bunker at Cheyenne Mountain, within a few miles of the Fort Carson Army Base, and about seven more miles from Peterson Airforce Base and the Northern Command complex. Then, on the North side of town, you gave the Airforce Academy and Schriever Air Force Base. We also have a lot of defense contractors and tech giants with R&D facilities here.

When I envision a post-apoc version of Colorado Springs, I think of things like the bomb-worshipping loons in Beneath the Planet of the Apes, the Denver of Deadlands: Hell on Earth overrun with cybernetic killing machines, and the Indian spirits of nearby Manitou mountain twisted by nuclear radiation into something foul and evil. Plus, you know, scads of heavily armed cannibal mutants and little communities of honest-to-god human survivors holed up in the various fallout shelters around town.

Dude, if the end came tomorrow, you'd be so pooched. :p

Interesting... those survivor fallout-shelters would be like gold. They'd be targets by mutants (and worse) almost every day. I'm thinking a little bit road warrior but instead of fuel the mutant cannibals want flesh.

It's also something to keep in mind for Albuquerque NM. During the WWII and Cold War era bomb shelters sold like hot cakes in that area.

Would this be the sort of thing that calls for a wiki? Sort of a Wikipedia for Gamma World?
That's an interesting idea.

I do have my own wiki but it's dedicated to my various campaign concepts. (FYI... Some of my custom Gamma World creations for d20 Modern wil likely end up on my wiki at some point.)

It has been a while since I have read the GW rules, so the inhabitants are not something I could speak of intelligently; however, I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania coal county, so there would be many caves and mines to have been overrun.
I also live not too far from Philadelphia and Allentown (of Billy Joel fame), so- of course- the cityscapes would be able to be worked.
A little out to the west of here (as well as a bit north-east) is a military base. One is a reserve center, and the other is a technical center that makes various electrical components for the military. Definitely useful stuff there.
I also live in the midst of more than a few factories (it is actually the area's largest employment field). There could definitely be something about the factory coming back to ife (an idea I stole from 1ed GW.).

Island Paradise

I have recently returned to gaming and have mainly been running gamma world and cthulhu campaigns sporadically with old friends. I picked up the D20 gamma world books (I have almost all of the other versions) and have been working on a campaign that has become rather, well... complex. I mainly want to post a map or two and see what people think, but I'll try to give a little background.

My gamma world is set on a small tropical island. The Island itself has been protected for hundreds of years by a mutated ring of nanites that encircles the entire island 3-4 miles out to sea. These nanites attack and dissolve any non-living material that cross them. All ships sailing thru dissolve, their occupants left swimming to shore naked (everything dissolves). Any type of character could end up on shore.

The Island is basically packed with everything Gamma. For hundreds of years it was mainly mutant animals, mutants, plenty of deadly plants, a few stock humans and a growing octophus colony off shore. A small town had cropped up on the south side of the Island, and everything was good.

Then, about 150 years ago, one of the sole remaining floating Bubble Citys fell from the sky and directly on to the existing town. Long story short - The PSH's from the city were forced to live among the animals and the animals were forced to tolerate the PSH's. After years of struggle, there is an uneasy peace among the inhabitants. Shorlty after the crash, the PSH's assisted in repairing a gardening bot and an engineer bot. A monofilimnet mesh fence was erected to keep out invasive plant life. Soil was cultivated and crops planted (mostly giant soy). Mutant animals and mutants tend to the fields. There are no flying vehicles on the island, and very few functional land vehicles.

I've got all kinds of maps and craploads more storyline, but it's late. If anyone is interested I'll post some more - but here's a teaser of the main Island Map - Enjoy!
