D&D 4E If you had to choose; end of 4e OR 4.5e?

I'm for "4.5" -- but I don't want to go back to 3.x, exactly, but even further back. I want NWP, dagnabbit.

Evil Hat would roll some damn fine D&D. I want the Dresden Files RPG!

Anything based on Pathfinder/3.x would not interest me. I reality I do not see a 5e happening. I could see the game being updated live via the annual php and dmg. At least, until they create the Living FR VR where we just upload our conciousness.

2012 isn't the end of the world, just a new cycle. Magic is going to return and people are going to spontaneously turn into Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, and Orks. The USA is going to have to give most of the central and western states back to the Native Americans after a war pitting technology vs. magic & spirits. A Dragon is going to be elected president only to be assassinated shortly after he is put in office....

So, in 2012 the world becomes Shadowrun? Sweeeeet!

I considered a 3.5 / 4 hybrid, but then I realized that Pathfinder was doing just as well as any hybrid might. Personally, I think they should sell the rights for D&D to Paizo and let Pathfinder become the new edition.

This. Or maybe to Green Ronin or Hidden City, Peter Adkison's game company, although I believe he's more in the mood of creating the next M:tG than trying to save D&D again.

I voted for 3.5...but with the caveat that I was assuming that post 4Ed editions would more closely resemble 4Ed than 3.X.

If, OTOH, 5Ed and beyond looked like something else than either of those, I'd at least have to give it a try.

I don’t think you could take away such core gamist elements as the power system and call that 4.5. And I believe someone from wotc said there wouldn’t be a 4.5. (then again, they said they weren’t working on 4e two years ago. And maybe that person will have been let go by then)

I’m sure Pathfinder can do 3.75 very well, no need for wotc to go there too. And there are some 3e elements, like vancian casting, that don’t want back.

So I guess I’ll go with 5e, preferably by another design team or company. The more I read from M.Mearls the more I see why I could never have liked 4e.
Selling the rights to someone capable of delivering better online content sounds good too.

The problem is not everyone who voted "5e" or "sell the rights" will agree on what the next edition should be.
