Well right away somethings I noticed:

-The Warlord idea as a "Minion Commander", I wonder if they ever bring this into the game.

-I think considering the way they were acting, no one can say that the Necromancer won't be in the game.

-Hehe, fun seeing my question in there. I do hope that they give some serious thought into making firearms interesting and different from bows and crossbows. It be neat to see both the historical and fantasy-firearms they were talking about. Though, didn't quite fully answer it, ie; "what level of technology" so how technologically advance they could see it going. But since it was more a brainstorm makes sense not too. Also, come on that Dragon article :p

When they mentioned this, I immediately thought of a martial controller, a mastermind type of guy sending minions into battle. It would be kinda like a beastmaster ranger, maybe a little invoker thrown in. I think it would be cool if these minions were called henchmen. ;)

The impression I got is that something is definitely in the works that looks a lot like a necromancer, if it's not actually a necromancer by name. :)

Congrats on getting your question answered! I liked how they said they would try to differentiate guns from bows and crossbows. Incidentally, I have a question I'd like to ask them, how did you send it in?

Thinking more on it, much like how animal companions for beastmaster rangers can do different things depending on what type of beast they are, perhaps this minion-controller could have different types of henchmen. I think basing them off of monster roles would be best. So perhaps the minion-controller could get a brute, soldier, lurker, artillery, etc. companion, or maybe more than one at a time.

And as another throwback to earlier editions, I think it'd be a hoot if the primary purpose of these henchmen was to die for the PCs. However, much like beastmaster rangers, the minion-controller would have a "ritual" to get back slain companions. But this "ritual" is basically the process of hiring a new henchman. ;)

Be pretty simple Ritual to make. The cost be the cost to hire the mercenaries. The skill be Streetwise to find mercenaries to hire. Time how long it takes to find said mercenaries. The amount of success on the roll how many you can hire.

Episode 31 isn't showing up in my iTunes. It's in the rssfeed and I'm downloading it now, outside of itunes, I do imagine that lots of people won't know it's there... might be something in the xml file itunes doesn't like.

I had the same problem, iTunes didn't pick it up, so I had to download it directly.

Odd, iTunes picked up the new podcast for me as usual.

I found this mailbag particularly enjoyable, with plenty of nice tidbits. In fact, I think some of the information deserves to be published in a more visible spot.

The first two questions re skill challenges and skill DCs were particularly helpful. Apparently, the original DCs encouraged a DM to create a skill check that challenges a PC who optimized for that skill, but that check would be simply out of reach for other PCs. The new DCs allow almost any PC to be relevant for almost any skill check, with the optimized PC acing some checks. What the published errata/update don't give you is advice for changing how you design skill challenges to reflect this change in philosophy. For example, with lower DCs, it's more okay to design challenges where everyone must use a certain skill, without the benefit of aid another. Or that it's okay to include a skill that one PC can ace, as long as the challenge doesn't devolve into watching that player rack up all the successes the same way.
