Druid...now THAT's a controller!

Legend
My friend ran a 2nd level one shot last night, so I thought I'd try out the new druid.

After one fight I already felt like a controller.

I would use pounce to rush in and grant my rogue buddy combat advantage (for the record, druids are a rogue's best friend).

A couple of times I got surrounded, I then used chill wind to hit myself and everyone around me...knocking them all back while I then moved away. I also had thorn whip for a pull 2 (since I've seen how cool lightning lure is for a swordmage). Didn't get to use it, but I'm ready!

My daily is faerie fire, guaranteed 2 round slow, solid damage. Though I'll admit I took a long look at wind prison, I love how if your enemy moves it knocks all of his buddies prone.

And the fact that I can cast animal messenger 1 per day for free isn't amazing, but its cool. Btw....did I mention I had the highest perception in the party?

The druid is what the wizard should have been from the start, and I think the controller lovers out there will really enjoy playing one.

Druidz R teh broken!

Just kidding, I am glad if they got it right. I love druids and can't wait to play with it (the class!)

Good to know. Wizard really was the most disapponting class to me. I saw it in the PH as the only "controller," expected well...you know... And saw a glorified Warmage. (Actually...even 3E Warmage was probably better at battlefield control...) If I ever get stuck playing 4E for some reason, guess there's a class for me.

I had some free time during the holiday season and generated a non-core party using preview materials and ran them through some KOTS encounters. The party consisted of a Druid, Invoker, Bard, Barbarian and Swordmage. The two controllers did a darn good job cleaning house. The Druid was versatile, able to assist the Barbarian and Swordmage in melee when necessary, but able to step back and use chill wind quite frequently. The Invoker was a very effective blaster, he took Covenant of Wrath.

I really like both of the previewed Controllers.

I ran a convention game this passed weekend. One of the PCs was a level 2 elf predator druid.

I made the character with Fleet Pursuit, so movement was through the roof! Pounce was great fun to see in action. She was the only character to go down in the fight, however, so I'm not too worried about druids being too overpowered.

Druids are definitely a different beast than wizards, that's for sure. At least in beast form, they most definitely are melee controllers.

Ouch, wouldn't this provoke from everyone around you?

Anyway, glad to hear people are liking the druid. I am so stoked for March, it's not even funny.
