How much of a Collector are you?

Do you just HAVE to have everything related to your favorite game? Or do you just like to get the core book(s) and that is it?

I think there's a bit of a difference between a collector and a completionist.

I collect RPGs, got dozens of them. I don't have every book for all, or even most of them.

I myself probably fit more under the "Collector" label. I Collect different types of RPGs(Although my collection of stuff is very small compared to most collectors) but I do not have the urge to have every single supplement from every RPG.

I'm a collector but I also tend to be completionist for the games I really enjoy. Currently, the new Mongoose Traveller has my fancy.

They better of my finances the more of a collector I become. I am a completest too and trying to complete a many different product lines. I have lots and lots of RPG books, it is a little frightening at times.

Hi, I'm El Mahdi, and I'm an RPG addict collector.

When I was single and new to the game, I had to have every single thing published for D&D. At the same time, when a friend of mine got me to play Rifts and Palladium, I had to have everything that concerned my Rifts and Palladium characters and the campaign world. Completist? Oh, Yeah!

And miniatures ... whoo, don't get me started on miniatures. I easily have over 500 miniatures. I couldn't resist a cool new miniature, or a monster I didn't have a version of, or a new pose, or a race/class/weapon combo I didn't have, or a ....... you get the picture. Related to miniatures was that damn Pirates of the Spanish Main card game. Once I started playing that, I had to have every single ship (didn't end up with a complete collection, but I did have a complete collection of all American ships through like the fifth set - those things are plastic crack).

Now that I'm married, I'm a lot more selective and self limiting on what I spend on games. If I had the money, Yeah, I'd buy every damn game out there. But alas, I'm just not that wealthy. It's a hard pill to swallow, but I've learned to live with it.

I'm a collector to be sure, and a completionist when I can afford to be, which is all to rarely. However I do not obsess over condition. As long as its complete, intact (no cover separation, loose pages, etc...), and usable I don't care. The only reason I have new still in shrink wrap stuff is because it was back when I had a lot more spare cash to waste and I have 3 kids who all game with me. So I used to buy 3 copies of everything so that they could each inherit their own copy. Now I can't do that, and haven't been able to do that for about 3 years.

So I am a collector, but "fair" to "good" is acceptable to me. I want it to use, not to sit on a shelf to gather dust that I have to dust off.

That's exactly how I am. Even when I collected comic books, I had to have all of them from the series I liked, but I wanted to read them, not just own them. So I don't care about the condition as long as it doesn't have highlighting or writing in it. And the cover must be intact.

I am not a collector or completionist. While, I don't buy only the core books, I don't buy everybook for a game that I play nor do I pick up games just to check them out.

Unless I am buying a pdf for a dollar or two, I always check out a product and buy what I think I will use whether for mechanical/options, genre, or setting adaptation (the latter includes Earthdawn, Shadowrun, L5r, 7th Sea, where I like the setting, but not the mechanics). If I happen to buy a game or supplement and decide that I don't like it, I will return it or sell it rather than keep it (even if it means holding on to it until the next con).
