L4W Discussion Thread III

Guys, sorry I disappeared, my internet connection went out and I'm waiting for my provider to fix it... I'm at a friend's place now and I don't have the time to write the 15-20 posts I should. So... wait for me for a couple more days!! (hopefully!)

Valley of bone undead

I was wondering about the dead walking among the living in the Valley of Bone. They seem pretty interesting. But what are they like?

Are they evil, or is like the Eberron undead elves? Are they in charge? Who gets to stick around as undead - nobles?

Is there a cultural or literary reference that is the insipiration for them?

Hehehe, is that an invitation to blow up The Hanged Man? ;)

It needs some remodeling, make it bigger! With names for it's back rooms... (can we do forked threads with origin starting at post 1 of the tavern thread)

and a better bathroom, the line is awful...

I kinda imagined something like the Eminence of Araunt from the 4e Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide: "The Eminence of Araunt is a far-flung kingdom of the dead whose citizens across Returned Abeir (and now, Faerun) are linked not be geography, but by a common ideal. The Eminence believes that every royal crypt and every forgotten corner of the world whose undead yet serve masters long gone is actually a principality of Araunt".

Perhaps not verbatim on the idea of linked kingdoms, but I imagine ziggurat-cities ruled by ancient kings that preserved some portion of their kingdom in undeath, and perhaps some villages of intelligent (yet alien of mindset) undead. Also, jungle witchdoctor liches and the like who have dominion over small tribes of mind-thralled undead slaves. Some undead might even have roles in living cities as court magicians or secret police. I'm sure it's mostly open up to speculation, just seeds waiting for a shower of thought to germinate.

Edit:Oh yeah, can Matlal have a PDA (Personal Decapitated Assistant) for a shrunken head? It'd have no mechanical benefit, but a captured goblin shaman soul is really handy for keeping meetings and appointments.

HAHA! That's hilarious! :D

On a more serious note, I don't see why not. We do have some characters with some pretty crazy personalities, and while I'm not aware of any peculiar roleplaying props along the line of this PDA, I figure it was just a matter of time until someone thought of one. If it doesn't give any mechanical benefit, I don't really see any grounds to say "no".

I take it you haven't seen Palindrome's hand in action...
