Lets talk Wizard!

Look into greatly speeding up the casting time for rituals. There are many rituals that could be used tactically if they took only a round (or two) to cast. Perhaps the ability to cast quickly is a wizard class ability. . .

Here's what I did.

1) 10 minutes rituals now take one minute.
2) Once per day, a wizard can cast a ritual for free that has the following properties:
a) Is 5 or more levels lower than the wizard.
b) Has arcane as the skill
c) Has a fixed cost (no free magic items).

That has worked pretty well for me.

I want to make them the most atractive of the arcane classes, but not make it so a player would never play a warlock or
sorcerer.
Wizards can pick powers from any arcane class. The power is changed to use Intelligence to hit, but otherwise remains the same (e.g. a Con-based Warlock power would still deal 1d6+Con for damage).

Bingo. Wizards are more attractive as a class, but they don't get to steal class features, so there's still a reason to play a Sorcerer or Warlock.

I like allowing more arcane spells without looking at the available choices, but might want to restrict it to one per level or one per int. modifer point.

Another idea is to give them more spells that they can use. I was looking at the board for house rules and there was something for letting characters cash in an action point to swap their power for their other one in their book. Letting only the wizard do this would make them more veratile.

Strange topic.

Out of interest I spent a couple of play sessions monitoring total damage output, and you know the funny thing...the mage won! Against Rogue and ranger (Level 5-6 party btw).

Fact is he wasnt doing as much per creature, but his ability to hit multiple creatures just stacked right up. Maybe our strikers arent "hyper configured" (we arent really power gamers...thank god!), but still, there is alot to be said for the ability to invoke powers that hit multiple creatures.

This isnt the first thread I have read where people have griped over the wizard and I have to say I dont get it. Our parties mage kicks a&*#s! As it stands, I wouldnt boost him at all.

I will agree with this. One thing I've noticed is that the wizard tends to crit more than than other classes simply due to his large numbers of attacks. Also wizard dailies are extrememly powerful and long lasting.

While I do perform more versatility in the class (most of the classes really), I think its raw power is fine.
