Pathfinder 1E Why do you discuss Pathfinder on ENWorld instead of Paizo.com?

Two reasons why I discuss Pathfinder here:

1. Not all of the people here are on the paizo boards
2. By all threads being in the same location, they are easier for me to manage.

Why do you come to ENWorld to discuss Pathfinder instead of discussing it on Paizo's own forums?

For the record, I discuss Pathfinder significantly more at the Paizo Boards than I do at EnWorld. I only recently started coming to EnWorld. I attribute that to the fact there are seperate forums.

But you want to know what about EnWorld makes me post over here, so I'll answer in the spirit of the question.

1.) Diverse opinion. I'm a loyal fan of Paizo and of Pathfinder. They get a lot of my money. However, even if I can get sick of fanboism. That is something that is difficult for Paizo to actually do anything about; beause a fanboi might be a good customer.

2.) People who aren't on the Paizo Boards can be found here, which again is greater diversity.

3.) Another place to go to talk about it.

4.) I do like the tighter moderation. Truth be told, I'm not perfect. Sometimes I need to be reigned in myself. It's necessary to make that admission because I was snarky over at the Paizo Boards just the other day, though I did apologize afterwards. I would hope an EnWorld moderator wouldn't yell at me outright if I screwed up, but do I like there being some decorum... even if it applies to me as well.



If I may offer the reverse of the original question?

The reason I have favored the Paizo Boards over EnWorld was a by-product of the Edition Wars. I believe that critique of a rule system is healthy, if it comes out of a spirit of investment and interest in the game. Such critique helps it improve.

If the critique is only an outright rejection of the game, the only value it has is whether or not I buy the game. If I'm already invested in the game and I like it, hearing someone suggest that I should never have bought in the first place is not a discussion I need to read. Plenty of people at the Paizo Boards critique Pathfinder, but it's not usually an outright rejection of the system itself. That's why I appreciate Pathfinder being given it's own forum here at EnWorld.

And with the Edition Wars now over.. maybe EnWorld won't always need to have a seperate forum for Pathfinder. But for now.. it's helping me to feel welcome and interested in coming over here. And I am reading the other forums as well.

For the same reason that I don't just go to the WotC boards to talk about WotC's versions of D&D - the boards are different and they tend to have a very different atmosphere and a different population of posters.

The Paizo boards tend to have lots of comments by the designers and other freelancers, but it's largely a different population of users than on Enworld, and I appreciate the perspective that I can get from folks on Enworld in conjunction to that of the Paizo boards themselves.

Others have noted that they prefer the layout at ENWorld. I'll echo that. It may just be that I've been spoiled by the ease of use on these boards, but I find it difficult to get to anything useful on the Paizo boards. I almost always instantly find what I'm looking for here.

I'm a hobbyist as much a consumer. I go to Paizo for customer service, ideas, impressions from other people. I come here for ideas, critique, etc.

Also, I play many different games, but I enjoy talking to the same group of people.

Because Paizo's forum software is an abomination. I go there for the Adventure Path forums and Pathfinder Society forums, which I have bookmarked, but never browse the rest of the boards.

I like EN World. It's the friendliest forum I know, and the moderation keeps it that way.

I post at Paizo occasionally, but their forum software -- and its organization and configuration -- is just terrible. Hard to read, hard to use.

I post quite a bit in both places, in part, because you encounter an interesting diversity doing so. I'd consider going to other boards as well, but I really only have so much time to waste on gaming message boards.
