Pathfinder 1E Golarion: I'm very impressed

I like what I've seen of Golarion so far - I'm even tempted to use it for my next campaign based on what I've seen.

I will qualify that by saying that I've been so busy preparing for the end of my 2 year old 3.5 campaign (high level encounters are a real bear to prep for!) that my reading on it is far more limited than it should be.

I finally broke down and bought the campaign setting and am very glad I did. I'm planning on running a Pathfinder group in the near future and Golarion is just the ticket.

It looks interesting, but I don't think I have room in my budget at just this moment for another campaign setting.

It was pretty pricey. I purchased it and don't regret it but it was somewhat generic. But that is always going to be an issue with a setting that needs to have broad appeal.

I did the Burnt Offerings module (somebody did a really fine job with it) and I am trying to decide if it was good enough to buy the sequels. I really liked Sand Point Harbor and hope that they continue with this type of quality product.

I've liked what I've read so far. Seems like an excellent setting. I would like the companion books to have a little more detail. More maps and the such. Nirmathras, I think I got that right, seems to be a great example of a chaotic good society. Those that like playing paladins have some good choices of homeland. Really you can find something that fits all sorts of tastes. Even gunslingers have a place in the world.

Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance were explored to death in books and expansions. People knew too much about what went on. Made it hard to run those settings without a player piping in about having some fact about it wrong. I like those setting but I think having something fresh and new to explore is wonderful.

It is the first time that I enjoy a generic world. It is not only the interesting general concepts used. The brilliant details of the world and the quality of the published material make the big difference.

I got it a while ago. I love the artwork. I've been playing the Pathfinder Society mods. But if run a D&D/pathfinder game in the future. I'm going to use the campaign setting as the location for the game.

I think Cheliax is a homage to the Great Kingdom in Greyhawk. There's a group called Hellknights which reminded me of an old Rob Kuntz article from Dragon magazine about demon knights in the the Great Kingdom.

I just wish the basic campaign setting wasn't $50 (and the pdf is something like $32). That's a bit steep.

The pdf costs $ 10 last i looked and you can get the dead-tree version for much less than $ 50.

I purchased mine from a local internet shop specialized in CDs, applied a coupon, and then they (mistakenly?) applied two more coupons that i had used earlier, but for which they couldn't get the items. So in the end I paid 20 Euros incl postage. :-)

Not only am I thinking of buying more Golarion RPG material, but if they existed, I'd buy the first Golarion-set novel sight unseen. (Or, heck, maybe write one. :D)

For those with a burning, burning yearning for some awesome-sauce Pathfinder fiction written by Paizo fans and freelancers, you can check out:

The Pathfinder Chronicler

... the coolest little fansite I've seen in a long darn time.

While you're there, I encourage you to take a gander at Road to Varno Parts 1 through 7. Fun is, in fact, had by all!

And then there's Wayfinder #1 the Fanzine by Lilith, with #2 in the works

And apparently the novels are in the works too:

We'll be doing this. The only question is when. With the launch of the Pathfinder RPG, we're spending a lot of money on printing that we wouldn't spend in an ordinary year, so the launch date for novels will, for sure, be after the release of the Core Rulebook and the Pathfinder Bestiary.

After that.... well, the wheels are already turning.

Just to clarify - For the foreseeable future, all Pathfinder's Journal story arcs will be 6 episodes long, as we want each adventure path to have its own self-contained tale. Spanning several adventure paths like we did with Eando's story makes it difficult for new folks to get on board, and longer works are more appropriate for the forthcoming novel line anyway....

The Core Rulebook and the Campaign Setting aren't the same book, the Campaign Setting PDF is, unfortunately, not $10.

The Core Rulebook is actually campaign setting neutral.
