The DM Hotline

Bah! I called that a couple of WEEKS ago, and got a DM hotline.

No, I'm serious. The D&D support line has been up for months. I'm not sure what they're talking about with that date. Unless they just took it down and are bring ing it back up as a publicity stunt?

Wierd.

What happened when you called? Was it like an automated system? "If you have a question about skill challenges, press 1. If you have a question about character creation, press 2, etc.."
Was it just some guy "DM hotline. Have you tried reading the rules yet? No? I'd recommend reading the rules first and if you have any questions then come and ask us." Or something more professional?
Did they give a quick answer "No."
Or did they talk for some time "No, you can't do that. heh, but I remember a time when my 14th level paladin of Bahamut was in the second level of Orcus's summer home and I really could ahve used that.. I loved that paladin. They had a +8 sunblade. I know that's against the rules but the DM made a really good story about it. You see, Odin and Loki were eating plumbs on a park bench and.. (que Garrison Keillor)"

They've had a customer service number where you could call and ask questions for a while. The only difference I can tell for these days is that instead of the Customer Service Reps, they are going to have actually WOTC employees from all over the company answering the phones instead. (I say actual WOTC employees because I have somewhat reason to believe that customer service is contracted out of house)

They say they found the "best DMs from all over the company" to answer the phones. Who knows, maybe some R&D people will be doing it.

All of our customer service people are right here in the building. This is just a chance for people to call in and talk more "Help me fix my game" questions than rules questions. Customer Service already handles rules queries; this is more for DMs to talk to DMs here at WotC and find solutions for their game (plus, a chance to talk to guys like Mearls, Rob Heinsoo, me, Stephen Radney-Macfarland, etc. from here in R&D).

Thanks. Good to know. I just come from a background of working in call centers that were contracted out to other companies in order to do customer service and tech support. I just assume every company contracts out their phone support. ;)

Sounds like an awesome idea. I wish I could call. But I'm in Canada.
