I voted love it.

3e D&D revitalized my groups interest in D&D when it was released, and despite some shortcomings has managed to keep my group steadily interested since.

Now we have tried some variants like M&M and and some Monte madness, but all in all we just like the 3.x mechanic and feel for fantasy play. It works and works well.

We have moved on to Pathfinder. Not because 3.x is bad or PF is somehow better. But rather because it is IN PRINT, and we can use our 3.x source with it fairly easy. And we have been pretty impressed with the quality of the product from Paizo. It's not quite the new edition that I had been hoping for, but sadly it is closer to it than 4e for me.

But the love for 3.x is pretty high in my group.

I love certain parts of it, but - possibly because of 3e DM burn out - I dislike the system now; in fact thinking of DMing it makes me feel a little ill.

However I would play at the drop of a hat - any version of DND actually.

It fails in just about every aspect of a game, and it is more of a rule playign game than role playing game.

Frist off it is way to liniar. You just get better in everyway.THere is no way in avoiding it.I mena no mater what you are, you have have hit points and levels.

It is over comlicated, and simplist at the same time. IT is harder to hit a mmman in plate armor. And hammers and swords tear chaim mail the same way. Then you have the detail of when you can atack, and what range weapons have, and how far you can move.

Classes, are jokes. really. From how hits points.skill points, and bonus powers are moved about. In the end in boils down to this.

levle systems do not work. They may work on paper, but a level 12 fighter or even mag doesn't need to fear having a sword swung at them, or even getting stabed. Also with the way hit points work, your either fighting as if nothing happened or are out cold.Nothing in the middle.

the flaw of rolling a d20 is also that the best fighter in the word, taking up his most magical sword, misses 5% of the time.ALso so all fighters are just as good with all weapons they use.We all know that training with hand to hand weapons will make you great with a bow. Also if your good with guns, you must know how to use a sword.

In the end, d20 is too many rules, and not enough rules at the same time.Has too many strick rules, while leaving many feild wide open with no reason. I am ranting here, and know this dosen't make much sense to many people.BUt in the end I would like to see one come with a good reason d20 is a good system.

This has been the situation for our groups as well, but , in contrast to malkav666, we don't miss it now that we've switched to 4E.

Still, 3.XE holds the title of the D&D version played for the longest time without straying off and running other systems.

Whether 4E manages to wrest this title from its predecessor remains to be seen.

well, not sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but most of the criticism in the quote below yours can apply to 1E and 2E as well - hit points, leveling up & gaining more power, always missing on a "1" and so on and so forth. It's more a criticism of D&D in general than of 3.0 or 3.5.

Its a quote of an old and famous RPG.net post.

Hi Ourph,
Your response makes me genuinely curious. Can you expand upon this this frustration and hatred with some specifics (I'll send an XP your way as incentive)? I find such extreme opinions fascinating :o. 3.x really dropped the ball when it came to your support it seems.

They are the same reasons that have been proposed and argued about over and over since the 3e/4e edition comparisons started. I could make a long list, but it wouldn't be particularly informative or productive. Make a list of all the differences, big and small, between 3e and 4e, that would be a good start.

I played and ran games of 3e for ~6 years because it was the game my friends were interested in, even though I pretty much disliked it from the start (I would have prefered to play 1e or WHFRP instead). Playing 4e just added to the list of things I dislike about 3e by doing some things so much better. It's all personal preference, but the preferences are strong enough that it's frustrating to go against them at this point.

Out of interest, I find the two spreads of votes in both the 3e and 4e threads interesting. 4e is completely polarized (how's the anti-bell curve on that sucker), whilst the 3e spread is at least at this stage heavily skewed (towards the positive). Does this say anything interesting? Or are online polls meaningless?
It seems to me just a simple case that a decent proportion of people on Enworld who like/love 4e also hold 3e in high regard.
