Is a dying character still bloodied?

If you are still bloodied while dying doesn't that make Consecrated ground really overpowered? Pretty much next to impossible to kill someone when once you do they can get back up on their feet the next turn.

It's only a 3x3 square. Plus, if they keep standing back up, that DOES justify throwing a coup de grace at them.

I always took it as discrete states. So when you went from bloodied to dying you were no longer bloodied. Does anyone know if there is a direct ruling on this?

For what it's worth, that's how I run things as well. In my campaign it's Bloodied-->Dying-->Dead. It solves some corner case issues, and hasn't caused any problems that I'm aware of. Now the popular consensus tends to be that you can be bloodied and dying, but to the best of my knowledge there is no definitive statement either way.

Honestly I'd ask your players what they think about it and decide with that in mind. Mine found that it made sense to them, and they didn't think they were losing anything with consecrated ground. I'm sure others would disagree.

I feel certain the designers intended them to be discreet states. I see how you could logically interpret it otherwise, but I don't think they intended it to be something you reasoned out.

But how are you going to sue your second wind when dying? I only see a couple ways to do so, like th heal skill and a paragon path feature. It is not whenever you spend a healing surge.

A related question: If someone who was not bloodied takes damage that puts him at or below 0 hp, did the hit also bloody him?

I definitely think so. I also see no indication that the bloodied condition would end.

Minions however cannot ever be bloodied, I think.

I'll have to double check the way we're using them because I want to say the players had told me it was whenever they were bloodied and used a healing surge they could use two. I checked the compendium and it said when you second wind and are bloodied. So I'll have to check that against the original book text and see if the disparity is there or in the transfer to the character sheet

But with it being you can use two healing surges when you second wind then obviously that wouldn't apply to this. Sorry for the confusion.

I don't see anything that says that when you become Dying, that you stop being Bloodied.

I also don't see anything in your quote on bloodied or dying that says you stop being bloodied or dying when your HPs go back up either... Just saying that a careful inspection of the rules leads one through the corners in space to madness.

Anyway, there are a few powers, particularly barbarian, that work more sensibly if dying also means bloodied. Usually it isn't an issue, but if you can do stuff while dying, still being blooded seems to make better sense than not.

Yes, you have to continue to save. Going dying while having ongoing damage on you is a way to get pretty fast to negative bloodied value
