we are speaking over inherent bonuses... it is ok to have magic items at anypoint, but its not ok to have the attack bonus jump inherently...

+0 +2 +2 is worse than +0 +1 +2: inherent bonuses should be givene out at 3 and 7 etc... like the expertise bonus increases at 15 and 25 and not at 16 and 26... (not that i say there must be expertise bonuses... but if there are, you should strive for a smooth curve)

There's one other thing I noticed that's not specifically related to Dark Sun. The premade shaman had a very strong at-will attack power, Spirit Infusion. It's a Spirit power, range Melee spirit 1, that targets an ally. Your spirit companion disappears, and the ally can make a basic attack with a +2 bonus to the attack roll. It's similar to Commander's Strike, but it effectively has range 20, it gives a bonus to attack instead of damage, and it works with ranged basic attacks.
It's apparently a new Shaman type: the Animist. The Spirit Boon gives adjacent allies +2 to saving throws, and the OA does a d6 and causes the enemy to grant CA. Seems pretty cool!

The daily is pretty neat as well: a Stinking Cloud-esque sustainable zone. It does require you to unsummon your spirit to initially use it, though, which is unfortunate. Between that and the at-will, I imagine Sudden Call will be a very popular feat with 1st level Animist Shamans...

Q: How do will DS capture the feel of the struggles of supplies and resources for PCS without resorting to micro management.
A: (Rob) We got into the concept of "Survivals Days" Food-water-suinscreen,etc. If you don't have it, you run the risk of Sun Sickness - the world itself attacks you, and then you use the disease track system to keep track of how you're doing.
A: (Rich) Survivals Days will be for use in the wilderness, not going to worry about it in the cities.

Cool!!

I find it rather easier to plan and award a single event that gives inherent bonus than two, matter of preference.

???

It is still just a single event... just one level later...

your +1 bonus at level 2 comes from "half level" so an inherent bonus at any even level is a bad idea...

If you however make it a roleplaying award, then it doen´t matter at wich level players get it, becaue it is not strictly tied to the level progression... You can start level 2 without that bonus and get it before you hit level 3 no problem...

but a forced progression like in the character builder:

+0,+2,+2,+3,+3,+4,+5,+6,+7(actually +8 due to stat increase),+8 looks as if there is a really big jump in power from level 1 to level 2... figure in, that you also have an extra utility (which may also give a bonus to attack or defense) double number of feats and the biggest relative increase in hp and you suddenly realize, that the extra inherent +1 to attack and defense is just too much...

and level 3 is a level where you get only one new encounter power and some more hp.

Ah I don't mind with which levle people get it, I actually find it rather funny that for once we do have support for inherent bonuses in the core rules of D&D for a change.

Only thing they missed with current Character Builder is usability for house rules and campaign specific rules. ;)
